need a little help with BM Customer Service

I agree, superglue to keep the pin from rattling is a poor fix.

From what I've gathered, the stop pins in a lot of Benchmades are intended to be free floating, and the end result is a rattle. With a free floating pin, the wear is spread out more.

My 710 rattles and it's annoying, but doesn't do anything to the funtionality of the knife.

It should rattle maybe, but you shouldn't be able to move it too much. They should have replaced the pin or the knife. Call them and talk to someone and voice your displeasure. That's far too nice of a knife to be unhappy with it.

Well, I thought this thread was dead. I sent a link to this tread via email to BM. To this day I have not received a response. I guess I need to send another email with the link. I have not carried my Alias very much since I received it back. The whole ordeal just ate me up. I have not carried a BM product since then, except my Mayhem and that was just the other day. After flipping it, I started to listen and guess what, With it locked closed there is a rattle. I have not been able to pin point it yet. You bet I will NOT be sending it in to BM and pay shipping just to get my knife glued.

Needless to say I have NOT looked at another Benchmade knife since I got my Alias back. I used to be a hard core fan of BM, and they made up 90% of my collection, but now I don't care for them.

Maybe someday I will get over the bad taste, and try another one. Maybe not.

Thanks for all the replies,
John

Also I would be surprised if they would reply to an email about a complaint on another forum. Why not just call and speak to them directly?

Hey Dave that is a great idea.

I just got off the phone with BM. The lady I would need to speak to was at lunch. I got her email address and sent another email with the link. Maybe I would get a responce this time. If not I will call back.

Thanks,
John

Well guys, I just got off the phone with Kathy at BM. She informed me that over the past few months they have been making some changes. They have Sara that is in charge of the repair dept now, and she and Kathy are working to make things better in the repair dept. She researched my situation and has been working to make it right. To say the least I have lost the bitter taste I had. So don't give up on them yet. The are willing to keep there customers happy. Like I said before I have had great experience with them every time except with the Alias, but now that is being fixed. Thanks guys for all the support.

Thanks again,
John

Glad to hear the promising news. I don't want to see Benchmades CS go down the tubes. We're all ready running low on good knife companies.:)

Please post the final disposition of this problem with BM CS. I'd like to know how they took care of you (or not.)

After getting my email, Kathy called me back with in two hours. She did some research about the rattling problem, and spoke with one of the engineers about it. She search for an Alias that did not have any rattle, and sent it out via fed ex to me . She apologized, and thanked me for allowing them to make it right. As far as I am concerned they have gone far above anything I could have asked them to do. I am not sure what the deal was or what was going on when I sent my Alias in, but the CS was not like the norm for them. Now it seems they are back on the right track, taking care of their customers.

Thanks,
John

No, not really. It is sitting in the safe, and it may become a heavy work knife (beater). Or it could end up in one of my good friends hands that has wanted one. To be honest I have not given it much thought.

I agree with you glue should not be the fix for an almost $300 knife. The tolerances should not be that big on a knife in that price range. For one of their $50 knives maybe but not $275 that is what you are paying the extra for.
Are you? Well i would have thought, the majority is buying because of the fancy look and feel and material. Benchmade prdoduces at a certain level of quality exept the gold class knives. Rattling stoppojs were noticed on 710 models long ago. How could you tell, that Alias is anyway better with more closer tolerenaces than standard blue class BM knives?

After all, that knife is a serial production knife in the way BM makes them. BM produces at a very high level for edc knives.

I would adress my dissappointment to BM WD patiently. They are nice ppl.. Maybe Angie founds a solution on a individual basis, maybe not. Maybe next time you better ask, what are the options, before the knife is send in.

I guess, there is not much more to choose. But that counts for any company.
