Need a little info from the fellow swine...

So between myself, and my good friend Ben we have some questions:

1st-

What different configurations did the SFNO's come in? Here I'm talking about color/slab combos, as well as thicknesses.

2nd-

Same question, but this is about the BATACs. I believe the CG's came in at .187, and the LE's came in at .25 or .27. Were there any other thicknesses released?

I am looking for a medium to large knife capable of chopping (don't like the ASH1's). Being that I live in Miami, I don't really have a need for a dedicated chopper, however it seems like the SFNO's might be a little thin compared to more hearty knives. (Jarvis...I already know you're gonna say FSH!!!) I like the FBMLE, and it would be a great knife to have in case of a hurricane, but it probably wouldn't get much more use.

Ben is looking for an all-around camp/utility style knife, and he likes the BATAC, but he feels the CG version might be a little too thin. When he fondled (no homo) my BATACLE, he was phreakin' impressed. That's what led to him buying his SHe. Now he's seriously thinking about a 2nd Busse, and he would like it to be the "universal" user.

Any advice? Looking forward to your info about the SFNO's and BATAC's, as well as suggestions. Thanks, hogs.

I did a small chopping comparison in this thread The Contenders that may give you some impression on some of the medium sized knives. Hope it helps a little...

the batacle is .270". not the greatest chopper, but a good all arounder.

they came in a wide variety of flavors, especially when you factor in the ganza versions. i couldnt begin to list them all.

same with the sfno. the original release is .220" iirc. but there have been fatty versions and thin versions. also too many handle/blade configs to list conclusively.

both can be found in coated, satin, and dc. there are nuclear versions, recurves, mags, regs, etc. ive seen sfno's in black, od, camo, muddy, but i dont recall ever seeing a tan.

Great site for what the BATAC can do and more!

Jeep...I read your contender post. Awesome comparison. I wish I liked the ASH1 more because I would be able to buy one of those and something else.

Ben and I both intend to use the BATACs as all-arounders. I need a chopper, and he wants a BATAC with a thick blade (and preferably snake slabs). He likes that CG with Snake, but wants something thicker than .187.

Gravel...tell me more about this FATTY SFNO...

LOL...I just got back to my computer after we spoke, and was about to post pretty much the same questions. Thanks for saving me the effort.

And thanks to the rest of ya'z who posted replies so quickly.

The SFNO and both the RatWeiler and ChopWeiler may fit what you are looking for. May want to check them out!!

SFNO is definitely not TOO THIN. Every time I fondle my ONE SFNO, I realize how wonderful it really is. (Hand-shaped handles help too!)

It's just a bit more user-friendly than the ASH1. I like the ASH1, don't get me wrong. But Jerry could make a mint - and crush a few guys' collection value - by making about 4,000 more of them bad-boys.

SHSH's are really nice too - but they make SFNO's look cheap in comparison lately.

Take a look at the Weiler if you are open to non-INFI.

Otherwise, have you considered a Hell Razor?

(EDIT - I just reread your post. You really want to try a Chop/Ratweiler. Awesome medium camp blades that excel as choppers in their size range.)

PM...

I've looked into them, but I'm just so much attracted to the aesthetics of the Busse knives...not to mention...INFI!!! I will give them another look, though. Thanks

I'm really liking the old NO-E. It'd complement my SH-E.

Anyone care to give me a guesstimate how much one of those would cost nowadays? Let me take a deep breath and sit down first....alright, hit me.

450-600$ homie. That was what I was gonna get first...actually had it on the way, but complications arose. That was the Busse I showed you on my sidekick when you and I were sitting on the dock behind your house. (no homo)

Instead of that sissy .220 there are a few .270 Saber Ground SFNOs........damn I want one!!!

my eye is wandering back to the Fehrman Last Chance. I could get 5,000 of them for the price of one NO-E.

The Last Chance is a great blade for sure. I still reach for a Swamp Rat of Busse Combat first though...
