I have a Cabela's field coat. But after three winters as my daily choice, it is going to need replaced. Im a big guy so it would need to be available in 3x. Canvas would be nice, but not required. Under 200 would be great.

What length are you looking for? I've been wearing a Koolah Duster for a few seasons now and it's marvelous.

I don't know exact length, but my hung around the middle thigh.

For one that length google "barn coat". It's probably what you are really after.

I always called them field coats. Big front pockets that hang low, lined I side, breast pockets, etc...

look at the carhart ranchers coat, a lot like the barn coat, but seperates on the sides with snaps. I've worn mine for almost ten winters, I think I got it broke in.

the snap closer on the openings on the side make it easier to get in your pants pockets and to your belt.

If you are patient and lucky you might pick up a Barbour jacket at the Orvis warehouse off of 460. I've gotten a few clothing items there at close to half of normal retail price.

Their canyon coat seems to fit my bill

Don't know if it was the same one that you had, but I had a cabela's coat similar to what you describe for years. It finally wore out last fall and I replaced it in the spring (winters up here require a heavier coat if you work outside) with a carhartt canyon coat. It's been great so far. Still a bit stiff, but it'll loosen up with some more wearing/washing. Canvas coats always do.

Filson. Buy once, cry once. Expensive, but your grandchildren will fight over who gets it.
