I currently carry a SOG Trident with partial serration. But I just found out in my STATE of Kansas I cannot carry "assisted" blades. So I need a new knife. Blade has to be under 4 inches, don't care if its partial serrated or not, non assisted. I am looking for the BEST folder possible. I am willing to spend no more than 250 bucks. I am looking at the SOG Arcitech, seems like a good knife. Has the VG-10 steel which I hear is good. All suggestions are welcome! I am looking for top quality here!

Thanks

Kevin

thats a pretty broad question. tell us what kind of knives you like. do you want a 2" 3" or 4" blade, liner lock or axis, tactical or gentleman, any design fetishes you have, etc etc

Spyderco Endura, Paramilitary, Delica, Native. You could get all 4 of those for your 250 bucks! The blade on the Spyderco Military clocks in at right around 4 inches if you want as much length as you can get. Also, since you are willing to spend that much, you might check into the discontinued Spyderco Manix. 3.75 inch blade and an absolute tank of a knife.

I know those were all Spydies, but that's my brand :D

You might post down in the Knife Laws forum section for a clarification or confirmation on the Kansas law in question.

Under 250 bucks and under 4 inches has plenty of options.

Some good ones (all s30v not vg10) are:
Benchmade: 930 Kulgera- great for pocket cary, AXIS lock, thin light, beautiful multicolored g10 scales, uber sharp, ergonomics are hit or miss for some people, but I find it comfy. Can be had for about $125

Benchmade 615 mini rukus- Great ergos, flat ground blade(not full flat ground though), built like a tank, uber sharp, a little big for pocket carry but it is not a problem for me. It's my personal favorite. Can be had for $135.

Spyderco para military- right hand tip down carry only, compression lock, spydie hole, full flat ground blade, great ergos, razor sharp, grippy g10, nice and thin. This is a favorite of the forums. Can be had for about $120

Hope this helps.

4 inch, i believe my trident is axis so i'll go with that, tactical or gentleman just as long as its fricken tough.

i say the falkniven u2. its small. i've beat the sh** (poo poo) out of mine and it stays very sharp. OR anything 154cm i've owned 6 154cm blades and they are great for prying stabbing prying or prying. not too hard to sharpen either.

Thank you all for the suggestions.

I am fine with spending 250 bucks if it will get me the best of the best.
That Spyderco Military looks nice, CPMS30V is this steel better than VG-10? I don't know a lot about the steels and which one is tougher or what.

Keep those suggestions coming!

Thanks all!

I live in Kansas, and was aware of the 4" law, but am puzzled by the assisted law you mention. I purchased a SOG Topo assited at Bass Pro a few months back. I would assume they know the laws.

yeah s30v is better than vg 10. CPM-S30v is at the moment the most popular stainless steel for high end production and semi-custom folders. its kind of the standard from which all other stainless is measured by, and its very expensive in bar form. but having s30v vs vg10, ats34, or 154cm isnt going to make you any happier. the military is just a superb 4" utility/sd folder

yeah youre not interpreting that correctly. an assisted knife doesnt fall within those parameters. thats just standard 'no switchblades allowed' law. carrying an assisted is alright in kansas

Also had a Cop in Training tell me this. Ok well I still like to get a new knife :)

That Strider SNG looks awesome. But a little out of my price range.
The Benchmade Mini Rukus and Spyderco Military are on my mind.

I found my Strider SNG used for just a tad under 300...
