Looking for opinions on what to buy. I will use as an EDC when not carrying one of my fixed blade. I want the best I can get for under $250.00. What do y'all carry, and recommend? Thanks in advanced for your replies.

In that price range, I'd recommend a Zero Tolerance, I have both the 0301 and the 0350, both great blades, but the 0301 is a great knife for the money, sweet titanium framelock. S30V blade steel, and it's a heavy duty knife to boot. They're available under $200 NIB sometimes, check around online and in the exchange.

I carry a Spyderco Manix in S90V and CF. I have a CPM154 Manix 2 in G10 that I like a lot too.

I would recommend pre-ordering one of the Hest/F folders. Check them out at www.dpxgear.com, I think the retailer price is around 180.00 and they will be available some time around the end of the year.

Good luck with your search.

For around $250 you can find a used but in very good condition (near mint) small Sebenza. Chris Reeve folders are some of the best engineered knives that I have seen. If you want something larger than the 3" small, you will have to spend a few more dollars for a used Umnumzaan or Large Sebenza (the Umnum is amazing btw).

Spyderco Para Miliraty 2. Has to be the best bang for your buck!!! (after a Busse, of course :D)

I have been meaning to start a thread about folders. I don't claim to be any expert, but after buying, using and selling countless folders- from high end (strider, chris reeve, etc) to low end (buck, kershaw etc) these are the pocket knives I will not part with... Also, the link at the bottom is a preorder page for the upcoming ZT/Hinderer (ZT 0551) collaboration which should be absolutely awesome and in your price range.

The first is a modified Benchmade H&K Snoody design. BMHK14205
The second is a Kershaw Blur with Composite blade and rubber inserts removed.

Although I don't even have mine yet...I would recommend the ESEE HEST Folder. Titanium frame lock, D2 blade, and a few cool little gimmicks make for an almost perfect EDC folder. I CAN'T WAIT to get mine!

I don't have it in hand yet, but I too am looking forward to the ZT 0551 (ZT/Hinderer collaboration) folder. Check that link 2 posts up.

I'd be all over that if it weren't for the skull and lettering on the clip. I grew out of that kind of stuff... It seems they are trying to appeal to younger demographic with that design, but the price says otherwise, interesting stuff.

Yeah, I'd MUCH rather carry a Busse folder, might give Hinderer a try in the meantime.

I second this. I asked this same question a few months ago and went with the ZT301. Being a busse fan i wanted a tank of a folder. All those other big name custom knives carried huge price tags but still felt too dainty to me. The ZT is a beast and it can take tasks suitable for fixed blades. For the price, you can't beat it. Plus with the S30 blade, titanium liner and spring assisted opening mechanism, its packed with features.

i'll thrid the motion. i don't care how many gimmicks it has. mine has served the cause since "07"(that's what the blade reads). ya'll can wish and want what you will. this one has been put through the paces , with high remarks.

jaxx, snwbird, i like the effort. in this case i have cut every thing from food to work with mine.

when they are released please let us know how awesome they are. till then. get a zt 300ish. flop the scale's, flop the blade. it's just like waffle house, smothered, or covered, both?

Forget recurved folders, they are hard to sharpen. Look at a T2 Harsey Ranger by Lone Wolf. then spend the rest on ammo or beer.

Benchmade 950 Rift. Reverse tanto blade. ++ F&F. Solid Axis lock up. It's my favorite Benchmade knife. I edc mine a lot.
