I pulled the trigger on a new large regular sebenza the other day. It had a design on the front scale and I would like a plain ti bead blasted scale. Can one purchase a new scale from the company?

I was going to call them today but found out there closed till Monday.

Any help would be much appreciated...

I believe you will have to send it in to them so they can ensure the proper fit and finish. I'm guessing that replacing the TI slab will cost you a pretty penny too.

As another route, you can also have someone make you a custom scale here on BF.

it might be easier to see if someone on the exchange wants to trade with you.

I believe a new scale is in the $120-$150 range. Its been about a year when I last inquired about it, and like anything, prices go up, not down. I have a scale from Barry H and can certainly vouch for his work. That would shave some off the price.

Yeah unless you're dead set on a ti scale I'd suggest Barry H (he did a scale for my regular seb) or one of the other guys on here. It is very functional and made it noticeably lighter. Just something to think about. Ti is great but g10 is pretty tough stuff as well.

I bought a Star & Stripes front plate from one the guys here and put it on my large regular Sebenza. No problem, no special adjustment needed, just took a couple of minutes. Frankly, it's nice to have a decorated plate and a plain, so you can switch off for dress or hard use.

With all the custom scales out there these days I'm sure you could find someone willing to sell you their old ti scale...

anyone? anyone? Bueller?

I inquired about this for a small regular sebbie with an unique graphic slab about a month ago, and Heather told me that they can only sell the "21" style slab since the others are no longer in production and they are saving the slabs for warranty work.

Just a heads up.

stjames! Happy birthday!

Whadda coincidence --
you were born in '66 so you're 44, I was born in '44 so I'm 66, and we're both Sebenzanistas.

How lucky can you get? :D

If you don't like the design on yours and would rather have a plain scaled version you could
put it up for trade for one... just a thought.

I'm curious as to why type of scale it is you have on it?

The graphic design on the scale is called Echo... also thank you to everyone for all the suggestions. I'll try a post in the BF wanted section and see what happens.

Um, just send it in and tell 'em to blast it, graphic and all. It'll be a dull, blasted finish with hints of the former graphic imprinted.

It's your scale. You can do what you want with it!

Professor.

I heard my name come up--thanks. Sounds like you just need a bead blast on your existing scale.

Here's a thought for you, I use ceramic blast media, same stuff Kit Carson uses,

It produces a more jeweled, peened appearance. This type of finish tends to resist scratching better than the typical aluminum oxide bead blast.

Here's a couple pictures of what it looks like:

It's a nice finish for blades, too.

Thanks Esav, it is good to be reminded just how luck a man I am.

Barry H does great work and is fast! You can't go wrong with having him do work for you!

+1 for Barry. I've had a couple of my knives worked over by him and I couldn't be happier.
