Need a new knife for shipping out

Get a framelock.
i was pondering this first, mainly want another bench made is to replace the 2 I've lost & the many i have sold

1 of the BM went to the lovely of TSA (my dumb fault) and another was straight up stolen from me and i knew who, just did have enough "reasonable evidence'' even though my initials were on the blade!!!

Get a ZT0500 MUDD :p

Have you ever thought about getting a ZT0550?

Of my knives, the mini-Grip is the most all round user for the money. And you can get custom scales later on if you want to customize it. I would not worry about the axis lock. And BM has good customer service. You'll have access to mail pretty much wherever you are. But my experience with BM's has been very good.

Frankly, if I were you, I'd take advantage of the Hinderer program and order a 3" XM-18 (or 3.5 if you have big hands, but it is a large knife). As active duty, you'll get the great price, and it can be mailed to whichever APO you will be near. I consider the XM-18 3" to be the perfect hard use EDC knife, in a manageable size.

I love Benchmades,

But without knowing where you will end up, or what you will be doing. It is hard for me to recommend a folder of any kind. Would you consider a smallish fixed blade?

Thank you for serving!

What is that small knife on the far left? An Aphid? Really cool.

Look into ZT, especially blem from kershawguy. I'd say 0200, 0550, 0561. All manual.

Benchmade, I'd go grip. One actually has an nsn.

I use to own a ZT, love the knife not the size. if i were in a combat team or constantly using it i'd probably think differently

this was the exact knife i was thinking about for a frame lock, but I'm a gram wuss when working , ya i know pretty sad

If I wanted to carry a smaller folder with me on a deployment (and it wasn't a Hinderer), I'd probably have to choose between:

1. Spyderco Paramilitary
2. Benchmade full-sized Grip (not that much heavier/larger than the mini when closed, but a ton more blade when opened)
3. Emerson CQC variant of some sort (I like the 7v) or maybe an A-100
4. Cold Steel American Lawman
5. ZT 0350 (de-assisted - do they have a ball-detent? I think they do - if so, you could remove the torsion bar easily enough).
6. Strider SNG

well after some time to stew the info in my head, I thing I'm going to go with a 551 griptilian

Nice. Good luck on the knife and thank you for your service.

Check back when you can and update the thread on how it's serving you.

can and will do....... oh, don't thank me know wait till i'm retired or 6' under. Nothing personal just like to be thanked when the job is done :D

Generally speaking, most guys I know that are deployed use a Strider fixed blade. BN, BT, WT - etc. I have even 'gifted' a few of them. These are serious, no nonsense combat knives. It seems like you are asking about folders so I would recommend any of the Strider or Hinderer folders. Tough as nails and both come in various sizes. My 2 cents.

It's hard to beat a 551 in terms of outstanding price, sheer lock strength, light weight build, and deployment speed. I've always scratched my head when people suggest that active LEO/military/EMT (especially military, due to high theft rates) purchase a Hinderer, Strider, or comparable midtech for almost double the price. These knives are outstanding but offer no functional or performance increases over a quality Benchmade, Spyderco, or ZT.

Save the money for midtechs for when you return home. The Grip will serve your needs.

What's the BM model with CPM M4 steel that has a video of a hard use/torture test from benchmade themselves? Contego?

Get that :p

Not to mention it will outperform a much more expensive Strider, Hinderer, and other midtechs with its superior steel.

I'm a Spyderco fan, I think the Gayle Bradley would be a great choice too. I'd personally take it over the BM, but it sounds like you prefer axis lock over a beefy liner lock.

exactly. save the pocket jewelry for when you have a little more time to admire it.

I really like striders but for the weight i cant get into it for what im doing, i have a buddy who carries one who has cut nails with his, so its even tougher than that lol

im a spyder fan too, i generally carry a tenacious but the way i profiled it its too thin of an edge to be much good. I dont have the time to sharpen it every night, that n i cant bring my strop
