I'm in need of a new necker. I wear one daily and usually just cut boxes and such but every now and then it sees some hard use around the camp.

I currently carry the Bark River Necker in CPM- 3V. I prefer this blade style and would not want something to aggressive to alarm the sheeple. Size is also a consideration since I wear this at work every day under a polo style shirt.

I live and work in Houston. Very hot and humid all the time and I sweat when outside working, or in the woods. The BR rusts quite easily when soaked with sweat all the time and just the dampness of keeping it under a shirt at work all day. I'm looking for a lower maintenance blade. I do not like 440.

I prefer mid to high end steels and the better the edge retention, the more I would be inclined to buy it and use it daily.

Sheaths and handles/scales are irrelevant since I'm a kydex bender. With or without handles/scales makes no different. I can mod to my liking as I do my own scales as well.

What are some quality stainless steels and in what models would fit my needs?

I'm turning this over to the BF gang.

Thanks in advance.

Have you looked into the Blackjack model 155? 154CM steel and the model is made by Bark River even. Good size for a necker, too.

If you like everything about the Bravo Necker except for the 3V you could try to find an earlier model in the Sandvik stainless 12C27. Other similar sized knives in stainless are the Blackjack 155 Necker in 154cm and the Fallkniven WM1 in VG-10 or 3G. Here are some photos for size comparison. The Blackjack 155 is 4th one down between the 2 Bravo Neckers.

I am guessing this is a knife that sees less usage than a general EDC in the pocket?

I think the best steel for your application is M390, if cost permits. Other than marine steels like H1, I've never used a steel with such corrosion resistance. The environment you described is harsh (we have heat, water, and salt, likely in which the humidity is intensified and trapped from a Kydex holsert...) and I think M390's outstanding corrosion resistance makes it an ideal choice. While M390's excellent wear resistance is generally what is discussed, it's also selected for certain specific applications because it's corrosion resistance is excellent and far superior to most other steels with that degree of wear resistance.

I carry a Blackjack 155 in my city sheath/wallet. I have an Enzo necker as well, in Sandvik 12C27. Either would be great for rust resistance and both are pretty sweet.

Hope you find one you like!

Daniel Fairly make a great little titanium blade with tungsten carbide edge applied. It is called the Backpacker. He has his own sub forum here and a video of the Backpacker. Here is a pic of my Backpacker, it is a tough little knife that may surprise you with how it performs.

All EXCELLENT choices. I think I'll go with a Black Jack, the Falky, or the Hogue until the Survive!Knives Necker II comes out. It will be in CPM-20V I hope and should be perfect for my needs.
If I read my internet right, CPM-20V is the American equivalent to Bohler M390.

Is that correct??

WRKT makes a couple nice neckers in S30V, my favorite is the Knucklehead. Also a fan of the BRKT Bravo. The Blackjack is nice too.

You should look at the Tops Mil Spie 3. 154CM with Bos heeat-treatment. I have a lot of experience with that knife and it is a good, strong knife and easy to use.

If you can get your hands on one, I suggest a Hinderer Flashpoint. It's made of 20CV steel and takes a super sharp edge. I just got mine and it's the best necker I've ever used. It is much smaller than it looks though, so if you have XL hands it might not work for you.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Snody just posted up some neckers on IG

I think they were like 6 or 7 inches in AEBL Steel and around $100

Yeah. The Flashpoint is my favorite necker ever but it's pretty overpriced for what it is.

I don't carry it around my neck, but I really like my WM-1. I've had it for years and use it a lot. It comes in VG-10 and I think in 3G as well.

I you want the most corrosion resistant steel available, get one of the Sabi knives from G. Sakai in H1. They use 2.5mm blade stock, so they're lightweight and the blade on the smallest model I think is about 3.5".
