Need a new PC...

A $500+- Dell or HP is always a good bet. Get one with their Mini tower vs their slim line and you can add a good graphics card down the road of you want to do 3D gaming.

Apple designs some good stuff and they make Bank off of it, but they don't make it. Plus depending on the computer they charge way to much. They are software developers and a design firm. Asus makes most of their laptops and Foxconn does their MacPro's and some Desktops.

If you want to spend around $500 and never plan to expand your computer and want to try out a Mac the Mac Mini's are pretty cool.

I spent $4000 on my Mac Tower Pro, and I am underwhelmed. Yes, it's virus free, but ALL my compatible PC programs worked better (Including Photoshop before they made CS4). It's hardly intuitive, superfast, or without bugs.

BTW, that was 1.5 years ago and didn't include their monitor. That's an extra $1600. My Dell 32" monitor works famously for this at $500 less.

In contrast: My $550 Dell Inspiron 1325 laptop (2gb RAM, fast as hell) with Vista O/S works just fine. No virus prob's.

Value check. I bought the hype.

I'd wander down to my local brick and mortar nerd store, tell them what you want and get them to build it. that way you have some where to bring it when it breaks. I refuse on principal to buy a comp from dell, hp, acer, unless its something I can't get somewhere else, and there is a specific reason (like the acer aspire one I'd like to get). I never assume someone on a phone will eb able to fix my problem.
There are so many options available, and not all of them play nice. I spent 1500 on my machine, including OS and Monitor, and it runs faster and better than several prebuilts I've seen at the $2000 tower only price point. This is because every component plays nice with everything else. Besides, maybe one of those guys needs a gun fixed or a race car built!
