Guys,

I added a Skeletool CX (with 154CM) to my hiking kit, but in doing so realized that I need a shoulder pack that better covers my day-hike needs. So now I`m looking for a shoulder bag like the Versipacks so if you've got some reviews and pics I'd love to see them. I need something between the size of my Maxi Vulture and my shotgun-belt combo of Maxi Waistpack and accessories pictured here.

The Skeletool seems well built and shaving sharp out of the box. Widdled some nice tinder shavings for me today. This will be an integral part of my EDC:

I don't have pics but I am never without my Max Colossus

This is a pretty outdated picture as a good deal of my kit has changed, but the bag hasn't. Picked it up at countycomm.com for I believe it was 16.95+shipping. Nice little shoulder bag for dayhikes and such. Durable, light, a few seperate storage flaps, attachment straps on the back, and a good deal of space.
90% of what's shown here goes in the 1qt. pot, the knife has changed to an F1, the G22 rides on my hip, gloves and spare socks at the bottom of the bag, everything else(paracord, nylon rope, etc.) is in the wetbag shown in the bottom right. Might be a bit bigger than what you're after, but figured I'd toss the option out there, and the picture with kit helps show scale.

SOtech bag, or a jumbo versipak would suit your needs pefectly. I have the fatboy versipak for dayhiking and its a great bag w/ lots of room.

i have the Octa versipack, its a fanny pack, but great, i prefer it over the shoulder type, because i always have access to its contents

Mountain Smith just cam out with a new bag called the Day.

Its a mammoth little thing and the nice thing about it and its little brother the Tour is that you can use them as a shoulder bag, waist pack, or a both; which is What I usually do with my Tour. I will use the waist strap for comfort and put the shoulder strap around me so if I need to dig in it I us un-clip the waist strap and it now has the the quick access benefits of a shoulder bag.

Take a look at the mountainsmith lumbar series. They work as both shoulder bags and fanny packs. I have a couple that I use as daypacks.

I've been thinking about a Maxpedition Sabercat

Looks roomy and comes with a padded waist belt, and looks like the D-rings on top could easily rig a shoulder strap.

Sharp Eye Guess us PAers think alike...alot alike! we both responded about looking at mountain smith bags exactly the same time 12:15:eek: That's just weird!

In the camera out of igloo and maple syrup thread I'm wearing a Fat Boy...that's become my almost edc until I get my truck back, at which point it will be mostly riding in the truck. Anyway that's got a ton of gear in it, and it's very comfortable to wear. Not cheap but it is misanthropist-approved.

Lately, I have been using a Victorinox pack, purchased from REI, that either allows you to wear it around the waist (removable, very padded waist belt), or on the shoulder. The pack seems to be very well-made and is light weight.

The Spec Ops Brand S.O.B and optional shoulder strap is good for me. Like the Devil Dog it has room for two Nag bottles.

hammer i just ordered one of those bags today in ranger green.

lookin forward to it.

as for my personal recommendations, i've carried a maxpedition fatboy type-s for a long time. very durable and has been beaten pretty badly.

hold all my essentials and then some.

cheers

I am very happy with my Mountainsmith day lumber pack. $40 on ebay.

The side pouches will each hold a 32 oz Nalgene and the main compartment is pretty roomy as well.
