I have a Emerson mini CQC7 as my smaller defensive carry. I'm trying to find one that is a little easier to carry. Maybe a little thinner handle and a little lighter than 3.5oz with maybe a bigger blade. Around 3.5" blade preferred. Must be a tactical blade. Please help. Thanks in advance. Emerson

what exactly is a tactical blade? are you looking for a tanto point? 3.5" isn't exactly a small knife. how about something like a spyderco endura? it's fairly slim and 3.6oz. or a paramilitary 2, it became one of my favorite knives shortly after i got it.

Benchmade 530. Ultra thin. 1.8oz. Lined handle. Axis lock. 154CM. 3-1/4" blade IIRC. Hard to beat in the light, slim, tactical category. Benchmade has been selling them for a long time. Carries like a dream.

My favorite summer EDC knife. Cool looking blade. sick knife for the money.
A Benchmade Nitrous Stryker (you can get the mini) is a good option too. A little more expensive but definitely a great small tactical knife.
If you wish to spend the extra buck, then go with a Spyderco Para-Military 2. If you want black blade, the Para-Military is still available for a very decent price through several providers.

I think it's weird when people look for a knife for "defensive reasons" !!! Seems like they are waiting for a reason to knife someone ! Any knife will do in a life or death situation !!!

I think it's probably for the same reason some folks carry a gun. Better to have it......;)

I guess it's always in the back of the mind , but I carry a knife as a tool for work and life ! Not as a dedicated weapon!!! If I was stopped by a LE officer and said I was carrying a blade for self defense I'd find myself I'm jail for the day !!! Same with a gun , in fact it's almost impossible to get a permit to carry around here !!!

I don't think there's anything weird about folks wanting to be prepared, as long as they've trained and exercise good judgement.

So, now, folks who don't want to become victims are the bad guys? I disagree.

I agree that *almost* any knife will do, depending on one's experience.

I agree. I carry a handgun when I know I am going into a shakey part of town. A folder or 4" fixed blade is always within easy reach as well. Even better than all that, I EDC a lot of common sense. It's better than any knife for SD.

Only a black bladed knife by Mantis, Dark Ops, or Rogue Warrior will do in a life or death scenario though, let's be reaslistic... ;)

You living in Cali know just as well as I living in NJ that if you ever hurt someone with a knife even if for SD it's gonna be attempted murder charge !!! That's just the way it is on the coasts !!!:D

The Para 2 actually weigh more than the emerson mini CQC7. I don't like frn. Thanks

I had the 530 before, but I sold it. The handle wasn't for me. Thanks

Looking into thee Stryker right now.

That's exactly how I feel :)

Try a Al Mar Sere 2000 mini, actually if you have the Emerson Mini-CQC-7 you have one of the best now in a smaller size.

Actually, the Para2 has zero FRN, it's G10. I would also say that the lock might be a little better than the liner on the CQC7. I have both and the compression lock is the bomb.

Who's to say how much common sense some random poster has? ;)

I think that the legality and the individual's reasons for wanting to carry are an entirely separate issue.

That's what I though, but trying to find something a bit thinner handle and longer blade. Also a little lighter. I've been searching and haven't found any. Just though I would ask the expert here on BF. Just in case I missed something.

I know the para is g10. I meant the endura has frn.

That is incorrect, in my non-lawyer opinion.

If it's truly SD, and it can be shown, there should be no charges. Of course, there are other circumstances to be considered (need for use of force, past history/prior record, etc...).
