I would like to set up a smaller polisher/sharpener for lite polishing and sharpening with a paper wheel. I would like variable speed and can run it thru my KBAC unit. I'm not very sharp on electricity and motors so I wondered if anyone could share with me what kind of motor I need to look for. The KBAC I have is for a 1.5 hp 3ph unit. I was thinking something about 1/2 hp variable speed would be great
Thanks for looking.

I think you would have to pull the jumper contacts uses to select the HP of the motor that are inside the VFD out to a switch so you could change the HP selection depending on which motor you are using at the time.

To run from your VFD, Firstly you need to use a 3Ø motor.

Fwiw, My neighbor gave me a junked washing machine, I Plan to use its 3Ø motor on a lathe...

Variable speed Porter Cable Bench Grinder from "Lowes"....perfect for paper wheels.

Yeh, I kinda figured it would have to be a 3ph motor. Busto I looked at the Porter Cable and noticed it only slowed to 1100 rpms. Was thinking that was faster than I wanted but it sounds like you have experience with it. Could you elaborate how you use it?

You don't necessarily have to change the jumpers, but the drive will be basing its built in over-current protection on whatever the jumper IS set to. Most of the time this is somewhat of a non-issue. That said, I'd probably just get a variable speed bench grinder and call it a day.
