I need a knife that i can use while i work, opening boxes cutting tape opening plastic packages, like id say medium task but still every day carryable.
The law in my state is no blade over 4 inches.

my consideration

Kershaw Leek
Kershaw Needs Work
Ontario Rat 1
Buck Vantage
SOG Flash 1

I need it to last along time and not want to call apart on me (sharpening isnt a big deal i got plenty of means to sharpen a knife well.)
It also needs to be under 40 im open to suggestion, what do you think is best?

sorry i didn't see your price range!
normal Vantage then:)

not sure on the bucks, i have a 110 and its a nice knife but im not happy with it because of weight, are the vantage better? and iv heard a ton of problems with the vantage not centering right

Get the paperstone Vantage for around 35. Centering is easy enough. Mine was fine but a friends needed tweaked and I loosened the frame screws and retightened all little by little 'til all good.

For work I'd just buy a run of the mill box cutter. If you are going to buy a knife and use it for work, doing what you've mentioned woul blade centering really be such a deal breaker? I can't imagine that it would since it won't be in pristine condition any more.

well im going to actually carry it with me when im not working too, and i want it to be safe, and i do have a box cutter that i use to cut cardboard up but i need something else for cutting the thicker plastic bags and stuff because the blade on the box cutter wants to twist and its more of a pain in the ass then just ur regular knife is .

As you can see mine is used well. About 7 months old used edc 5 days a week at work opening paper rolls. It is fine.

Not going to matter on a user knife unless it was rubbing, then they do have a great warranty.

Then there is the price range you are looking in also, don't expect gold for a lead price... ;)

I'd go for a Kershaw, specifically the skyline. Kershaw has some of the best customer service if it breaks or anything else

well yea ik, i just need something for a couple months until i can get something of a higher quality for the 80-100 price range.

That or you could just get an Endura for a few bucks more and be done with it.

Second on the Endura/Delica bit. Save up a bit more and don't just buy a knife you may not be satisfied with because it's cheaper, especially when you're just going to buy a new and expensive one further on down the road. Buy an Endura or a Delica and you won't have to buy another. (That's not to say you won't want to though...once you start, it's hard to stop)

Kershaw makes a lot of good choices but the Leek might be a bit small for your stated use. Someone mentioned the Skyline and I was going to second that one, as well as suggest the Blur. Spyderco is also worthy of consideration and I would suggest the Tenacious or the Delica. The Ontario Rat 1 gets good reviews but it is pretty big. Another to consider is the KaBar Dozier.
