need a suggestion on whats best

I've got a Buck Vantage too and am pretty happy with it. Affordable knife and the quality is more than good enough for daily my cutting tasks.

I'd go with the RAT or the needs work.

the RAT's great value and better for work than the vantage IMO, vantage is much more of a EDC.

as for the needs work, its fast, its a hefty sturdy construction and its comfy in hand. not great as an EDC though. too thick

Spyderco Tenacious All The Way.
Or Kershaw Skyline.

But I Would Go Tenacious. It's A Hell Of A Work Horse And Holds It's Edge Well And You Wouldn't Be Disappointed. And It's Only $30.

But On Another Note... Why Don't You Just Use A Box Cutter At Work For A Couple Of Months And Add Your $40 To Your $80 - $100 And End Up With $120 - $140 To Spend On A Great New Blade? And Then If You Have Left Over You Can Get Yourself A Cheaper Knife As Well. But $120 - $140 Would Buy An Excellent Knife. You Can Find Good Knives For $80 - $100 But If You Up That A Little More You Can Get An Even Better Knife.

Or Just Add $35 To Your $40 And Get A Spyderco Manix 2 - A Hell Of A Heavy Duty Use Knife. It Would Withstand Nearly Anything You Put It Against. Unless Of Course You Decide To Try And Pry Car Doors And Other Stupid Things.

But If You MUST Have A Knife Now.. I Say $30 Tenacious. EXCELLENT Knife. I Can't Say Enough Good Things About It Especially At Its Price Point.
And Then You'll Still Have $10 Left Over And Can Add That To Your $80 - $100 And Have $90 - $110 And End Up With Your Paramilitary 2.

Or You Could Get 2 $30 Knives And Buy A Spyderco Manix 2 For $75.... Your Options Are Open Pretty Wide...

not too worried about the edc part of it too much, aslong as it fits inside of a pocket its fine

Spyderco Tenacious! Or you can spend just 10$ more and buy the centofante III on amazon for $50. One of the best values out there.

tbh iv used my friends tenacious before and i dont rly like it, it feels like its got too much bulk for what your getting from it

I would go with the rat 1 or the tenacious. I think both of those blades would serve you well. I would prefer the rat 1. It's on the medium to large side, great blade shape, quick deployment, very comfortable (for me at least), and it carries well. Either of these knives can get the job done and get you by.

I can understand that.

What about the Centofante III? Its such a nice looking knife for such a good price. I looks and feels like 100$ at only 50$.

Seems like you want an awful lot for that $40 that you are willing to spend.....

Waiting until you have more money would be a better idea.

Just just won't find what you are looking for in your price range, it's just not really there.

a utility knife that is a liner or frame lock... not asking for that much.. all everyone wants to do is reccomend spydercos when i dont want a spyderco. just because it isnt a spyderco doesnt mean it isnt out there..

if i go with a tenacious will it hold up well for use? and does everything come good out the box? my friend got his and his g10 scale was loose, was that just a fluke?

The Kershaw Skyline really surprised me with its value. It's American-made, has G-10 scales, and a good design within your price range. I'd be confident in saying that it's a knife you won't be embarrassed to own later down the line when you accumulate more expensive knives, too.

For primarily box cutting, though, the Kershaw Needs Work is probably a better option. The wharncliffe blade is perfect for that, and the knife is even cheaper than the Skyline.

It is when you start getting a bit nitpicky over weight, handle thickness, lock type, etc.. Ralistically speaking, the are plenty of knives out there, but if you are perceiving flaws or drawbacks without actually holding or using them then that is another issue in and of itself. There are a ton of people lately complaining about knives because what they are attributing a lack of understanding/manual dexterity to the knife. A bada carpenter always blames his tools. Best of luck in your search.

How about a Kershaw Clash or Volt II or if you want bigger a Tremor? I think they are a good buy for the money. Of the ones you listed the Buck Vantage would be my choice. Good Luck! Kevin :D

In that price range you are looking in and being picky about it there really isn't anything in that range. ;)

What about the Persistence or Tenacious? Both great slicers with G-10 and inexpensive.

EDIT: Saw your thoughts on these knives...I have to say that for 30 some bucks, you probably won't be disappointed. They're nice knives...that having been said, they aren't super expensive knives so you shouldn't expect to be getting the best at that price point. Also, I saw your friend had a problem with his. Any line of production knives will have the occasional QC problem. You can't really rule any of them out based on one exemplar.
