Need a tool for opening paint cans

This is a great thead LMAO...there are serious replys and then...well the others. Preston

Glockmann99..when you use that DE 50 to open the can do you even have to brush the paint?

STR,the screw driver also works,if you are handi,LOL.
pjsjr,I like Stevekt's 20 in one !!

Str,we professional house painters will only use the screw driver as a last resort, when all 5 in one's cannot be found.

Not if the can is close-enough to what I'm planning on painting.:D.

Maybe Strider can make you a tactical paint can opener to covertly deanimate the latex encrusted enemy. ;)

Hi All-

My preference is to have a 5-in-1 slipped into my pocket whenever doing household painting chores.

130240_4.jpg

It opens cans, pounds nailpops, cleans rollers, scrapes loose paint, and can slice the top off a paintcan to make it into a true cutting-can without the seal. The pointy tip can widen cracks until you find a uniform surface to start patching. You can even use it to spackle small areas in a pinch. The junky one pictured above doesn't have full-tang construction.

Prybaby, or what the old timers I used to paint with used the old military can openers that you can attach to your key chain the P 38 http://www.georgia-outfitters.com/page52.shtml fits on a key ring is flat and doesnt bother you and will pry open a paint can no problem. Plus you can get it for a buck at a Mil-Surp store.

Pocketwrench, $8.95:

"How many times have you needed to snug a nut, pop a paint can top, tighten a slotted screw, or take a quick measurement, but it just didn¹t seem to be worth the trip to that big old toolbox in the shop! Put a Pocketwrench II in your wallet, and you’ll be fixing things that aren’t even broken yet just to show off (it’s in the DIY’ers Creed). Only 4" long, 1" wide, and 1/8" thick, the Pocketwrench II handles hex nuts from 3/16" to 11/16" (even metric sizes) using its unique serrated gripping edge. The bodie’s 1/4" hex opening accepts any 1/4" hex power bit, so you can easily drive virtually any style screw. The end is tapered for slotted screws, opens paint cans without damaging the rim. The laser engraved body is laser has 2" and 5 cm scales for a quick measurements. Made in USA of 420 Stainless Steel."

What's wrong with using a paint can opener?

I use these all the time and have never had a single problem with them. You often get one for free when buying paint.

On occation I've used a screwdriver when a paint can opener was not handy. Never had a problem with that either.

I would never use a knife blade to open a paint can.

Best Wishes,
Bob
My thoughts exactly. Why not use the right tool for the job (especially when it costs less than fifty cents!!!)?

It's a paint can, not rocket science. Sounds like much-a-do about nothing.
