I just got this motor, well i pick it up tomorrow. but i need to find a vfd for it. it is 2 hp and will take diffrent voltages 230V and 460V. i don't know if a 460 volt vfd is cheaper or not. here is my new pride and joy that i need a control for. its solid stainless steel :D.

Jarod,
You have gone first class on everything else for this build so why not go with the KBAC 27? The NEMA 4 enclosure is robust and classy with the whole unit having such a high quality feel that it would be a great fit.

Is your motor a washdown type? That should last you for a while.

Some but not all 460V rated drives will accept inputs as low as 230V so check the specs carefully before you buy. Nothing will blow up or get damaged. The drive will just indicate an undervoltage fault and will never allow the motor to start no matter what you do. You will only find a 460V supply in an industrial zone. You are not likely to find it in a residential or rural area.

That is an incredible price for the Teco drive. The one big advantage the KBC drive has is that it is NEMA 4. Otherwise, you are not likely to notice any difference in performance. If you mount the NEMA 1/IP20 drive the way all the manuals tell you (away from sources of dust etc.) you are not likely to notice any difference in reliability either.

the more i think about it the more i think i should get the KBAC-27D and i'm thinking i should get it in white as that kinda close to my grinder color. now does any one have any experance with using state-electric.com thy have the KBAC-27Dlisted for 340 for the gray and 370 for the white. i just thought i would see if anyone has delt with them. o and why is the white more money, that does not make any sence.

I bought my KBAC-27D from State Electric. They had the best price that I ws able to find and were great to deal with. Make sure that you order any accessory items (optional switches like the line power switch do not come with the base unit) at the same time as the drive because State Electric has a $50 minimum order requirement.

Good luck.

thanks, what is the max rpm i could get out of a 1740rpm motor using this vfd. i thought that the vfd will maker the motor go over the rated rpm but i'm not sure.

The manual says that you can adjust the max speed trimpot to 110% the rated RPM (so 1740 x 1.1 = 1914rpm). It is my understanding, however, that adjusting this beyond 100% is not recommended. I would leave the max speed setting at 100% and make all adjustments to belt speed range using a different pulley ratio.

thanks a bunch. see i want to hit around 6000 SFM max with a 4" drive wheel with my 1740 rpm motor so that means i would need what a 7" pully on the motor and a 2" on the drive shaft i think. am i correct ?

My math says that is about right.

I think i'm going to make my own pullys and put a 6" on the motor and a 2" on the drive shaft. then a 5" drive wheel on the grinder that will put me at 6829 SFPM. which would be great for hoging with my 50 grit blaze belts:D. right now i run a 4000 and its to slow for me when i hog

I bought my KB drive from State Electric as well. They were fine to deal with, but took two days to ship. It was no big deal and I didn't care at the time, so I did not even try to find out if that was typical or maybe there was a problem with inventory. Erin is right on the reminder of the main power cut off switch not being included. You dont have to have it, but it is nice having it there. I found a DPST 20 amp switch and rubber boot locally for about six bucks I think.
