I'm considering a 6in fixed blade knife. The three I'm currently considering are:

BRKT Rogue Bowie (most expensive)
Fallkniven A1 (middle priced)
Ranger RD6 (most rugged and lowest price)

I would love to hear opinions of these three knives. Any compare/contrast reviews or photos would be great, too.

I own knives by all three companies (Fox River, F1, RD4) so I already love the companies but would some thoughts about the next size up.

Othello,

Do you like thicker or thinner blades better? What do you see as your main uses for the bigger size? That'll help narrow it down.

Seems like great options listed in your post. The rogue was 7" I thought. I'd add to your list the as of yet unavailable Rat Cutlery RC-6, supposed to be available this month.

They're all up to the heaviest duty knife jobs, so I think it really comes down to which feels better in hand to you. For me (as always) it would be the Fallkniven.

I have the Rogue (and a dozen other 6" knives). I love the Rogue but would point out it is very sharp and has no guard of any kind. I use a safety cord to protect against forward slippage. And yes it is 7" cutting edge.

A great 6" knife everyone needs in their collection is the old Buck 119 'Special', 'Made in the USA' (Maybe not the sheath!) and available for ~$34 at Wally World with a Kydex sheath ($38 at 'Academy' with leather!). If you've seen most of the Les Stroud 'Survivorman' series, you've seen him tote and use it along with his Leatherman. You can spend more - and get the rosewood/brass version - 119BR (MSRP $117) - or the new this year stacked leather and cow bone 119BRSLE-B at an MSRP of $210, if you want something different. They all have the same better-than-it-should-be 6" x .174" at the spine hollow-ground 420HC blade, with an OAL of 10.5" and weighing from 7.5-10.5 oz. Classic grip - good hand protection. I have an assortment of 'better' knives from the MI UP, and the basic 119 is still a favorite... especially in the kitchen (What a butcher knife for meat & veggies - for $34!). Maybe I'm just frugal?

Thanks everyone. I'm still looking. I haven't added the Scrapper because it's a little harder to come by. I like the Buck but I'm not a fan of the hollow grind. This knife is intended to be carryed with a 4incher and a SAK, so I guess it will be a bit more concerned with chopping. I'm leaning towards the A1 or RD 6 for this reason. Please keep the suggestion coming.

Who says that a 6 inch blade is a "large" knife?:p subliminal message.........go custom;)

I can only speak in regards to the Rogue, since that's the one I have. It's a heckuva neat knife, that's become my #1 favorite. It does crude whittling tasks just fine, clears out alder, grass, willow, and so forth real well, botons real well when splitting logs and such, and seems pretty strong since I've pried a door with it a couple times with plenty of blade flex and had it return to it's previou straight condition. (Not uber-ninja assault stuff, but general log home/cabin building knock around stuff)

I'm a huge fan of the convex edge and the coffin handle. The lack of a guard really doesn't bother me at all, since I rarely wildly stab or push at anything with a knife.

Overall I like BRKT quite a bit, but think thier sheathes are usually crap, but this one comes with a really nice sheath that can be configured and carried in a couple different ways. I really have no serious gripes with it, other than the handle could be a bit grippier. I wish it was a little lighter too, but I say that about everything these days, including my own porky self.:o
