Need advice in purchasing a shotgun

I've hunted and shot trap for practice with both the Rem 870 and Moss 500 and never noticed any difference in perceived recoil. The Mossbergs I've owned or shot had dual actuator bars, but that may not be true of Maverics. Finish on 870s is often better but you'd expect that with a significantly higher price. Certainly a fine gun.

My Rem 11-87 seems to shoot a bit softer than either a 870 or 500 but that's sometimes the case with semi autos vs. pumps.

I agree about staying clear of pistol grip only stocks. If you want a pistol grip, get a full stock that also has the pistol grip beneath it.

I thought I'd add that I own a Remington 870 and shoot it often. Though I liked my Ithaca better, the recoil is much less with the 870. The Ithaca is so light that it kicks like a mule and it surprised a lot of my friends who are shotgun veterans.

I haven't been to a dealer yet, but I just checked Remington's website and they don't seem to carry the original 870, the closest I could find was the Express. Anyone know a site that still carries the original?

That would be the Wingmaster.
Not sure if it is still being made, the Express is the same gun without the deep blue finish and shiny stock.

Remington 870. One of their Express models will save her some cash.
Reliable as a brick, built like a tank, and they have a steel receiver with a bit of weight to it. Less weight = more kick, which should be a consideration for your mom.
Tactical (or "reduced recoil") buckshot is available if you need to tame it a bit more.
25 years as a dealer, longer as a LE and private firearms instructor here.

This ^^^^^^^^ is "spot on" in my book as well.
Very good choices and suggestion...

I think this might be my best option so far, the F&F looks good and since its synthetic I don't think I'll have many problems with rusting. Plus the magazine holds more shells. The Marine Magnum looks nice as well (any thoughts?). Still need to do some more reading up on the Mossberg 500...Doin that now...

You can't really go wrong with that shotty. It's the best value for the money from the research I did. The shorter barrel (18.5") is perfect for indoor use as a home defense weapon.
