Had a BK16 sold it because it felt "cheap" compared to my ESEE blades. I also think the 1095 that Rowens uses is heat treated better than Kabars 1095cv. The BK16 may be the perfect blade for you but for me I would take an ESEE 3 over it any day of the week I did in fact keep my 3 and sold the BK16.
Can't go wrong with the USMC.
A lot of folks like the JAB Potbelly.
I'd like to try the Heavy Bowie.
And as you probably know, the Becker Knife & Tool line is produced by Ka-bar.
Ka-bar has a lot of good options for outdoor knives in my opinion.
I'd say esee or Becker. I'm partial to esee and I'd vote for either the 6, 3, or izula II. Those are my 3 favorites they produce. You won't be disappointed.
$10-$20 Mora
$20-$30 Cold Steel Bushman
$30-$40 Buck 119
$40-$50 KaBar
$60-$70 Becker
$70-$80 Helle Eggen
$80-$90 Sog Seal
$90+ Fallkniven, Tops, ESEE, Spyderco, and the list goes on. IMHO the better blades start in this range and some really good knives are opened up to you at $150 range.
Condor has some very affordable options. I hear a lot of good things about their Hudson's Bay knife. I have the Toloza and it's a nice blade for the money.
My first thought was ESEE 3 or -4, or Kabar Becker BK-2. The knife that I have settled on in the last year is a Blackjack 125 which runs around $150. I love this knife and yeah, I own the other ones too.
I own the Condor Hudson Bay and it would serve your purpose as a camp knife. I don't know about toting it in the woods, but I am warming up to the idea. This knife grows on you.
Keeping the price under $100, anything from Becker, Buck or the Onatario Ranger lines are all good brands. And that leaves many other choices from Ka-bar, Blind Horse and other semicustom makers.
I may just save up some more money, and go for an Esee, i saw some at a local dealer today and well, i loved it. still liking the becker also, and actually i didnt know becker was owned by Ka-Bar, i am pretty new to knives, and i appreciate the information!
Whenever i go hiking or do some bare bones camping with my friends i always have my Fallkniven F1 with me. great little knife, can do everything i need it to do. Not to mention the thing is built like a tank. i dont see it breaking within the next couple hundred years
Though if you dont want to throw the bucks for the F1, Cold Steel makes the Master Hunter, which is just a cheaper version of the F1 in my opinion. wither way you looking at alot of money. So you can never go wrong with a Becker or Mora
