i have purchased a tull tang carbon steel knife blank and have settled on oak for my handle (i like a bit of weight) and leather for my sheath (i like a classic) but i'm unsure if my procedure is sound and was wondering if anyone with experience could look it over for me and tell me what i've missed?
Procedure:- carve the scales from dried oak, and drill the holes to match the holes in the blank
- use angle/bench grinder to give the blade it's general edge and smooth off rough edges
- apply epoxy resin to the scales prior to riveting
- rivet the scales to the blade tightly (by hand and by means of a ball-pein hammer) so that the epoxy oozes out a little
- wipe the epoxy
- apply masking tape to the blade around the sacles and varnish the scales
- allow to dry
- get on with learning to make a decent sheath
HAVE I MISSED ANYTHING? ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.
