I have been having several problems with my mail carriers lately. In the past month I have had 2 payments come up missing. Both were from well known people here and one I have had dealings with before so I know the money was sent.

The first missing item was easy, I agreed to a personal check (rare) and it never came. I kept in comm with the buyer and we finally agreed it was time to send another, he did I got it 3 days later.

Now I have a missing Money Order (missing check #2), I don't know what to tell the buyer. If I ask him to re-send payment, he is out the money until he can file a claim and get a refund, I don't think it's fair to him.

Any suggestions on how to handle this?

BTW, the missing money order is a fairly low amount but it's the point that counts, he should not have to pay twice.

I have filed a complaint with the Post Office but have little faith.

I beleive There should be no problem with a lost money order,it's not like having a lost package. The money order itself has no replacement value, unless someone has found a way to cash it illegally. If the buyer has his portion of the money order reciept with serial number,he goes to where he bought it and has them issue a new one and cancel the old.I think, all they do is run the mo number and see if it hasn't been cashed. It is kinda like stopping payment.should the other mo turn up no one would beable to cash it.Sending a replacement should only take a few minutes of his/her time.Try asking the sender to do this if you have waited a reasonble amount of time for it to arrive.

Chad your a top notch seller and buyer as well as a friend! I would bet that if you Emailed the buyer a alternate address HE would be glad to send you a new MO ASAP and go to the PO and cancel the other one!! I know for sure that if you follow my advice it will work out just fine!

Thanks for the advice Masterchef, I knew he would be understanding.

I've just never had a situation like this before, and don't want anyone to get the short end of the stick, so I stuck it up here for advice. Didn't realize a MO was easier to cancel and swap than a regular check.

You have mail
