Need Advice on "Thinnist" Knife for Dad's EDC *Update*

Boker Subcom Titan is a bit small, perhaps, with a 1 7/8" blade, but it very thin and lightweight. I own one, wonderful knife. Clips snugly into the money pocket of my jeans, too.

On the opposite end of the scale, the Benchmade 530 is incredibly light weight at 1.88oz, but the blade is 3 1/4", so it may be a bit large for what he wants. Great knife, though.

Again, thank you all for your advice. I ended up going with the AG Russell 3.0 Titanium Lockback. On paper, and in terms of size, it is almost a twin of the cheapo knife my dad has been carrying. Of course, it has titanium handle slabs, a VG-10 blade, is well-made, and is sharp as hell. My customer service experience with AG Russell was top notch, and shipping was fast. Oh, and dad loved it. He called me to tell me it was sharp and that he cut his finger. Could have called that one. Here are a couple of pics, with one showing it with another titanium handle knife ;) for comparison.

get him a really good one, will be worth the investment. I' even say save for a custom, but I'm biased.

By saying that, you are implying that the A.G. Russell 3.0 Lockback is not a "really good one".

You obviously haven't handled the knife in question. Just because a knife is a "custom" doesn't automatically make it better and spending a ton of dough on an expensive knife is usually a mistake when giving it as a gift to a "non-knife person".

To the OP,
Congrats on the selection and purchase!
I've purchased several of these for gifts and all of them are holding up nicely with the owners pleasantly surprised by the utility and quality. Several owners cut themselves rather quickly because they were unaccustomed to a truly sharp knife. I'm partially to blame because I further refined the factory edge with a mirror polished .5 Micron edge. :D

Look at the CRKT Ripple 2 and Eros 2. Very thin knives with nearly custom manufacture. My Ripple is one of the highest quality folders I've ever held--I'd rate it comparable to a high end Kershaw (at 1/2 the price). And the Eros is supposed to be a lot nicer.

nice!

Just to add my 2c - the Russell 3.0 is perfect for those who want a thin, light, practically invisible pocket knife with very good blade steel and top quality. I've yet to find another knife with this combination of qualities for this price.
