Just sizing up which mora im going to buy. I will eventually try them all out, but for now, im looking at that 780 tri-flex craftsman. Now, is this 'tri-flex' the same as their carbon laminate? Is triflex just the 'name' of their laminated offering? Im guessing it is. Somewhere I just read that the laminated carbon versions, while sounding really good, dont really work any better in practice, cuz their blades were a touch thinner than the rest.
It seems to me, that theyre all either .098 or .079 thickness and thats that. All in all, for now, I want the biggest (under 5" though) blade I can get, that utilizes a .098 carbon steel blade, and doesnt have a bright coloured handle.
The tri flex craftsmen seems the only one to fit this bill, but was wondering on the real deal of this laminate theyre offering. Is it squared away or not. I'm not going to be standing on this thing, but I still would rather lean torwards the thicker blade.
After that, Im going to be trying the 731 5.75 inch carbon version next. Anyone own the longer bladed version?
And lastly, I'm getting the hint that most people here prefer carbon steel over stainless for their main fixed blade... And I can understand why. I prefer it as well but, how does the mora stainless hold its edge vs. their carbons... is there a noticable gap in edge holding abilities?
Thanks in advance.

The Triflex that I have cuts the same as the carbon blades. I think the idea behind it ( soft spine/ hard ege ) is to impart more toughness in the blade. IE..it will take more flexing without breaking. For around 10 bucks from ragweedforge.com you can't go wrong IMHO. Ragnar charges a flat rate of 5 bucks for shipping so you can order a bunch of different models & save on shipping.

The Tri Flex blades from Ragnar, as I understand it are not laminated, but have a differential heat treat or something. I know my own tri-flex does not behave like any other laminated steel I've ever come across.

As far as edge holding ability I did a side by side comparison with one of my stainless Moras and was VERY surprised to find that the stainless blade had held it's edge slightly better than the carbon one. (this was cutting paper, cardboard, tin cans, rope, and whittling pine) The stainless ones aint bad stuff. (they both regained their edges with similar ease as well)

I'm not entirely sure which blade would be altogether "tougher" though. I would think the Tri-Flex, since that's a bit of a selling point for it, but I woulda put my money on the Tri-Flex holding it's edge longer too.

yea, i know about differential tempering, from japanese swords.. but was just wondering about your guys experiences. I like stainless too, but Im going to blast and blue the blade so, stainless wont take a bluing as good as carbon will. Well, not from my past experiences anyway.
