how do you guys get such clean lines where the ricasso and the blades grind lines meet. I have tried various attempts to make mine clean but havent fount a good way of keeping it crisp and clean.
I have used a 1x 30 belt sander to try and clean my hand filling. which works good at the start but when i switch to a finner gritt the newer belt has alot of slack in it and tends to mess up my lines. my grinds are flat, convexed. when i use the slacked belt sander it ends up cutting more then i need in the spine of the blade. and then i end up with a really novice looking grind.

I am trying to develop this skill right now. I find the 1x30 belts don't have a lot of stability, and jump around a bit. I am actually making a guide today to clamp on to the blade to prevent the belt from jumping over the plunge, and a flat piece of steel with a fine rounded edge (it will look like a file without teeth) to glue sandpaper to so I can sand the plunge to perfection. I can't see how a 1x30 would make a perfect plunge from my limited experience. I will post some pics when I have the tools made.
