Fellows, I have been making knives for quite a while. But only in o1 steel plus various ss that i do not HT myself. I am thinking about making some in 1080 and would like to know the diff charactoristics of the two.
And also, I make [HUNTING KNIVES] that I personally would carry, That is my designs, really the only way that I know how to design them, Now the same knife in 1080 & in 01, What are the differences, when it comes to skinning a deer, around the camp, stirring bacon in the skillet, cutting a fishing pole or skinning a catfish?
Any and all comments would be appreciated.
Thanks Jerry

If both are properly forged, quenched, & heat treated, I DO NOT believe you will honestly be ABLE to tell the difference. Both will skin, filet, slice, dice and make julienne fry's all day long in hunting camp.

Thanks Jason, I hope your right ,1080 is so very much cheaper.
sure wanted more opinions but don't look like I'm going to get them.
thanks Jerry

All I can say is that excellent knives can be made from either steel. Some of the best makers around use 1080/1084; I don't think they chose it because it's "cheap".

There's more than one way to skin a cat; we're blessed with many choices of quality steel.
