Need another file

I started with this awesome Pferd flat file that chews the metal away. I'm still working on the blade profile, but now I need another file, like a large round or half round. I have a round / rat tail file (Kobalt brand) that is rather coarse, but it's not very good. Is there round chip breaker equivalents like the Pferd? Should I just burn up some harbor freight files?

Any solid recommendations on some round files?

Thank you!

In knifemaking, files are not a tool investment, they are a consumable. They get used up and need to be replaced. The super cheap ones may be a waste of money but, the really expensive ones can be also. I like Nicholson files for their price point and performance. When they become worn out, I don't mind throwing them away. Of course, now that I'm starting to get into forging, I will probably turn them into knives; I believe Nicholson files are 1095.

I also love Nicholsons, but I have the older ones that are USA made. They are great tools!

I find good files at swap meets, garage sales and estate sales all the time. All shapes and sizes, and generally quite cheap. I also find the needle files from Harbor Freight are valuable, even though they don't last very long.

thank you!

Right now, files are acting as my band saw, belt sander, disk sander, etc; so I'm trying to find the most aggressive files I can - like the Pferd I already have.

I agree that files are consumables to a point, but I'm hoping to extend their life if I can. $40 isn't a whole lot, but if I spend $40 on a single file as opposed to $8, I'll try to make it last and care for it accordingly.

The old advice is use sandpaper like it's free. Similar advice should pertain to files. If you can't use it as if it was free, you'll be worrying about the wrong things while you work. Let your work determine how you use the files, not your worry about the cost of replacing the files.
