I have lots of knives and would like to learn to thin behind the edge. For steels like s30v, 440c, s110v, 1095, m4, zdp-189, and more is there a belt grinder you would reccomend? I'm looking to spend $250 tops prob.

I was looking into water cooled ones but $550 is a little to rich for me I'll just keep some ice water next to me.

Thanks!

The other option would be to buy this water cooled Borg for $150 it's only 1/6 hp @ 420 rpm w/ 400 & 1000 grit water stones. I would need to go in and put a 2000 rpm motor in and put an external variable control on it. The other question would be on one side I can only do towards the edge and the other away from the edge being that's it's a wheel is that a problem?

Take a look at the Kalamazoo 1x42 belt grinder. I have one and I got a new platen from a guy on another forum that really improved it. I don't have his contact but if you google Kalamazoo 1x42 mods, I'm sure you can find him. It's not a perfect grinder but it doesn't run super fast and it's made in the USA. I got mine on sale from Enco for about $250. Make sure you get good belts and grind bare handed for safety and to keep from overheating your blades.
