Need Concealed Carry Advise - A HARD one!!

I need some concealed-carry ideas for a defensive knife.

I just bought a leather coat for this winter. I was HOPING to carry my BM Nimravus clipped to the inside pocket.

It's not going to work.
The inside pocket is a verticle one just inside the zipper. If I clip the Nimravus there than the handle hangs WAY out where you can see it with my coat unbuttoned. I can put it completely inside sheath and all, and as long as I keep my left arm tight against the coat I can draw it without removing the sheath. Re-sheathing it is something else...

SO, I'm looking for something else. There is only a few inches (about 2.5" max) between the edge of the pocket and what can be seen.

What I REALLY NEED is a fixed blade knife that has a sheath with a pocket clip that's very close to the end of the handle, so I can clip the knife horizontally to this pocket and still have the thing fairly recessed. In other words, the handle can't extend much further than the clip - 2" or less would be great.

The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is one of those Cold Steel Safe Keepers, but I want some more options before I go out and get one.

I'd give blade shape and finish preferences but, in this case, I'm really a begger I think and can't be a chooser!

Couldn't you just get a custom sheath for your knife of choice? Shouldn't be a problem finding a sheathmaker on BF.

Hardheart hit what I was gonna say. THough I must admit I'm partial to a SOB carry anyways, even with smaller blades, don't like how a knife seems to throw my jacket out of balance between the sides when I ahve it open. but don't wear leather, so that might make a difference.

But yeah, got some of the best custom makers in this country and several others frequenting bladeforums. take advantage of that. :)

Before I get into my usual spiel that Bladerigger are the best sheaths in the world (oops, was that out loud :) ), how about Bud Nealy?? He makes tons of models with his 9 position multi-carry sheath...

if you're on a budget, Boker makes a production version...

OK. I'll give that a whirl, but keep the ideas coming, please.

I have a Boker/Nealy Specialist 2. I think the handle will stick out too far in this instance.

You could carry just about any folding knife made in the outside waist level pockets of your jacket. If the coat isn't too tight you can get the knife out plenty fast, with a little practice that is. Sometimes the simple answer is best.

Umm, are you allowed to carry a fixed bladed knife concealed upon your person where you live?

exactly what ya want is the nealy MASS system, NOT the MCS, which, imho, sucks. i have a pesh kabz he made a custom MASS sheath for, and the sheath does everything i have been looking for a sheath to do. am 100% satisfied w/it.

now that MCS on the other hand, i didnt care for at all. a 'loop' of nylon strap to affix the sheath to the belt on a $200+ dollar custom knife for IWB carry?? BTDT, and didnt like it, simply chincy, and the plastic 'things' to attatch to pockets/boots/etc, didnt work for me at all, and again, cheap and chincy imho. if the MCS was the only sheath available for my nealy, i would sell it, honest to goodness.

the MASS works as well as the MCS sucks, imho.

TOPS Sea Wolfe & Nite Chaser has a clip that spins around 360 degrees to adjust to any position. (most of their sheaths do) This fits what you want it to do though. Its a defensive blade with a thin profile 1/8", handground 154cm. The sheath is square to to eliminate printing. Hope that helps some.

You're scaring me. Maybe this IS a bad idea. Sorry for wasting people's time.:( :o

#1 - In California (where Nifrand is from), carrying any fixed blade concealed is illegal. In Colorado, maybe it's legal. If it's legal, then I don't see any reason why it should be automatically wrong or a bad idea.

(I looked at Colorado's knife laws as listed on the page Knife Laws of the 50 States, and it seems like it's legal to carry any knife concealed, fixed blade or folder, so long as the blade length is not over 3 1/2". But that was a quick glance and that page could be out of date or incomplete; you should know your state's laws on this subject through your own research. Also, look up and know your local city and county codes/ordinances.)

#2 - There's no harm in asking if it's something you're thinking about. Even if you change your mind and don't go with it, I don't think anyone will begrudge you for asking about it. :)

Pending your examination of your local laws (it might be less of a crime to carry a concealed handgun). You can have a taylor or dress maker create a special pocket using your sheath...it could be placed next to the existing pocket and the handle could be covered by cloth that matches the interior lining. This cloth would help press the handles into the lining. Velcro might help.

Of course I wouldn't know anything about this personnally...

Be careful where you leave your coat and to whom you hand it.

be careful as may cities have their own statutes as well as following state laws, if I were you I'd be reaaaaal careful. many times even if sometinmg isnt ilegal the courts will "twist" things around to make it become something its not, and good luck fighting that one!!! its been very politically incorrect to carry knives since the events of this past year. many people are paranoid, and the goverment and local law agencies are more than happy to ride the political train on this one!!! case in point some bus companies now randomly wand you for knives when you board a bus. one college wands you as you go to watch a football game!!!! sad, sad world!!!
