Overall length is 9.5". Blade is 5". Factory nylon sheath good for backpack, not late nite urban Concealment. Not looking for a legal rendering, rather ideas, makers, positions for rapid deployment, and some comfort. I'm right handed. Thanks.

you could try an IWB (in-waist-band) set up:

Basically a loop with a snap that attaches to the kydex sheath via one of the eyelets. Thread your belt through and tuck the last half of the sheath in your waistband. The top half of the sheath and the handle will be visible but easily hidden under a shirt.

I made a holster for a 5" 1911 to combat having to deal with so much of the barrel in my waistband. I kept the gun high and tight by using thick leather and a good belt, so it could adjust the weight of the gun from flopping around.

My thinking is that a light (not 2lbs) knife could have a sheath made that replicated that pretty easily. You could also do a 15/45 degree angle small of the back sheath that would basically keep the length of the blade IWB and leave the grip available for a back draw...of course, resheathing would take some finesse without cutting yourself.

There is also the ol' shoulder rig with a kydex sheath and a pull down draw. If the fit is right, you don't even need a belt attachment. The shoulders carry the weight and you don't need any negative support to pull the knife up and out as you are pulling down against the shoulder straps.

For me, I conceal a fixed blade with an over-shirt OWB or a shoulder rig.

You need a set-up like Clint's, and you'll be good to go....

:)
Not looking for shoulder rig. IWB sounds right. Many kydex i see have a lot of extra material around the edges for lashing, etc. Anyone make a flat, minimalist almost like those Japanese magnet slender sheaths i saw years ago?

I like to carry either appendix or 3/4 o'clock. Knife in the pic is about a 5.5" blade. Sheath made by Ben Seward. Forgot to add; Sheath is kydex lined with leather inside and out.

Just to try it I have carried a knife of similar size in a southern comfort style sheath. The sheath was a bit problematic because it could rise out with the knife, so I added a small loop that goes round the belt.

Always thought the kydex sheath styles Gryphon knives offered were nice.

Also the old Cold Steel / Cutlery Shoppe types -

.

And the Draw Point style -

Basically IWB, little rounded ears at top, and a most often a soft loop type belt loop.

I pulled the pics off the internet, but -

The Draw Point is by Mike Sastre, who seems to have slowed down, and has had some unhappy customers.

The Tanto was a Cutlery Shoppe exclusive from the 90's. You might want to drop him (Jeff Loffer) a line at the Cutleryshoppe.com website, and ask him who was helping him design the sheaths. For a while, they had a sheath division that was marvelous at these types of sheaths, I think it might of been Blade Tech that did the actual work.

Really though, I think most of the better kydex makers could do similar working off a photo. The trend now just seems to be heavier stuff. Also if you find a sheath that works otherwise, you can buy the Blade Tech "Pull Dot" kydex loops and Spyderco G clips separately.
