i am looking for a cup i can put into camfire to boil water and make tea, something very sturdy any suggestions?

what capacity and what kind of carry options are you looking for?

should it nest on a nalgene or can it be a singular unit?

i found that having something that you can lid works best for boiling water, because you can put it down right in the fire instead of on the edge. for the same reason a bail (vs a handle) works nicely because you can pick up the container with a stick without putting your hand in the fire.

you could go as simple as a coffee can with a coat hanger for a bail, or something like a nesting cup for the nalgene, or even one of those giant Zebra mugs that bensbackwoods.com carries.

i want somthing that i can drink out of, for cup of tea or soup that is fits in daypack which has a handle i can hold when taken out of campfire

GSI cup is what you need. I use mine for exactly what you are wanting. Handle is great, doesnt get too hot at all.

i love my nalgeen, and my camel back.. by my o crap things are bad drinking vessel that always comes with me is my usgi canteen.. complete with iodine tablets 9(ick) and the most usefull cup i've ever owned.. there are some trips that i don't use any other dish but that cup....

If you want a little more than just a cup try the a Snow Peak Solo cook set. I got one after seeing a suggestion, that IIRC was by Bryan Breeden. It has a small pot, a cup and a lid that fit into my Maxpedition 10x4 with my Guyot bottle. It is more pricey but also more versatile.
It may be more than you need but I am enjoying mine.

I've got a Snow Peak cup/pot that works nicely. Before that I used a canteen cup from a US Army water bottle. The Snow Peak is titanium and lighter, but really I think I just wanted to try something different. The Army canteen cup works a charm and fairly inexpensive.

Practical tactical has some great ones that nest on a Nalgene, very well constructed.

I was out and about today, but was thinking about this thread a fair bit.

A metal cup is a really important piece of gear IMHO. It's something I kinda take for granted, but am never without. NEVER. Even in my daypack I keep a sierra cup. I feel better knowing I've got a cup handy, just like a knife.

In any given survival situation, my priorities are to 1) breathe clean air, 2) stop the bleeding, and 3) find water. A metal cup is an invaluable aid when it comes to collecting and purifying water.

It's odd, because I spend a fair amount of time and money collecting and trying out knives, but very little time thinking about my metal cups--except today.

Is a cup just a cup?

I was thinking the same thing today. A cup is really like a best friend if alone and thirsty in the woods.

+1 for the GI canteen/cup. I actually carry two, one in my pack pocket, one on my hip. Very useful, lasts forever, and works. :)

Yep, have steel one with older handle and aluminum one with butterfly handles. Just like I have metal and plastic USGI canteens.
