I'm looking for a fixed blade edc knife for under $105. I want a blade between 5 and 5 1/2 inches long (stupid knife laws). I'm literally torn between the esee 4, the bk 16, and the bk 2. Any help or recommendations would be highly appreciated.

You have knife laws that limits fixed blades to 5~5.5 inches long?!

Well ... both the ESEE4 or BK16 have blades under 5" so they're 'illegal'. The BK2 is 5.25" but weighs 16oz!

The BK15 at 5.5" 6.5oz or the BK10 at 5.5" 12oz would make better EDCs. As would the KaBar 1256 at 5.25" 6oz.

Travis, I think what he means is that he can't have a knife over that length and he is bummed about that, so anything under that range would also be acceptable. Just wanting to try to clarify that, and as I know nothing about fixed blades, it was just a point to help you guys help him.

<facepalm> Got it, THX!

Same recommendation goes - BK15, BK10, KB1256 over the BK2 - its simply too heavy for EDC. ;)

For EDC, any of the BK 'Tweeners' would work, with the BK15 being my personal fav. It's an 1.1" longer, .1oz lighter, slicer, and currently on sale!

BTW, any of the Tweeners will also fit in the standard 'short' 5.5" Kabar leather sheath for a more slim EDC belt carry.

Indeed, for the price of an ESEE4, you could get a BK15 and a custom kydex sheath and save money. ;)

weight isnt really a problem, im a large guy and like to have large knives with me. the only thing about the bks is the handle material. i really enjoy the micarta handles and the kydex. but the others are cheaper...... any other similar knives with a warranty similar to esses?

KaBar has micarta scales for all the BKs.

All large BKs (1,2,3,4,5,6,9,10,12) share the same handle size so the scales are interchangeable. Same with the 15,16,17.

The BK2 is really more like the ESEE5 - they're tanks. The BK10 has a bit longer longer but thinner (.188 vs .25) blade. It's still a big knife but more nimble than the BK2.
