Guys I have an Endura that is 8-10 years old. I cant remember exactly when I bought it. It has a serrated edge and the steel is marked G-2 stainless. I have not seen this steel mentioned on here, mostly the VG-10. Was this the standard steel for Enduras in the middle 90s? Thanks

G-2, also known as GIN-1, was the standard steel for pretty much all Spyderco knives for about the first ten years or so. Most of the early blades that don't have a steel marking are G-2.

You are welcome. Although you don't hear much about it anymore, it is good stuff. Spyderco built their reputation on GIN-1/G-2 blades. I still carry a couple myself.

The red handled Endura with the G steel was my first Spyder. I loved that knife. Just got the Endura 4 Z. I love this knife. Same ole story!

I'm not sure what year they changed the steel to AUS-8, but it was in the molded clip days. I still haven't decided which I like better, GIN-1 or AUS-8. Many of the newer steels leave both behind for my use.

I have been carrying an Endura every day since my first E1 in G2. in the early 90s. I upgrade as the company has over the years but it has always been an Endura (or 2). I don't remember much diff between G2 and AUS8. The newer steels hold an edge longer but are "harder" to sharpen too if you let them get really dull. They are all great though!!!
