I have my canoe trip folders narrowed down.
Spyderco manix
Benchmade ritter RSK folder
Benchmade D2 griptilian
microtech d2 socom elite
or any others you guys recommend as long as it has a clip and opens with one hand. Help me narrow this down

I have heard many many good things said about the manix, that would be my choice.

Why not a multitool such as a sak or a leatherman. as I recall from your previous thread you will be bringing a fixed blade that should handle most cutting, taking something else to perform identical tasks seems like it might be redundant a multi tool of somsot can cut if need be but will also serve other tasks, but that's just me if I had to choose from the list above I'd go with the ritter mini grip

I have the manix and the old style griptilian. I like the edge profile of the manix better. It is very large and the handle is quite comfortable and secure.

The manix has been my edc for a while now, it is an amazing knife.

Go with the Ritter,I don't think you will be disappointed. Got mine several weeks ago and really like the blade design for the outdoors. Mine is the SS full size w/ plain edge.

I carry a sog multi tool at all times and yes I do like a little bit of redundancy with my knives.

The Manix is excellent, and deserves every bit of the reputation it has earned. Of the knives on your list, that's what I'd go for. Another knife worthy of consideration is the Benchmade Mini-Rukus. The Mini-Rukus is almost as indestructible as the Manix, but has the Axis lock (which means faster) and better ergos IMO. It's also a more interesting knife to look at and play with. I have a Manix, and it's almost perfect. Hell, let's just say that it IS perfect. But it's also boring. While functionally, it's a masterpiece, it has all of the aesthetic appeal of a common stapler. There's no snazz to the Manix, it's all business. The Mini-Rukus has almost all of the functionality of the Manix, but it's more interesting- it has more elaborate workmanship, more lines to it, and you can play with it if you get bored. Nobody sits around and flicks their Manix open and closed, open and closed (after the first weekend of owning it).

I've got an Opinel Garden Knife (stainless) that I take in the boat for these reasons.

Its cheap. So if it gets lost, so what.

Its light as snot, and might even float, though, I haven't tried it.

Its convex!

I have never owned an opinel but i am seriously thinking about it. Everyone says good things about them

for the money its worth it, If in the woods I'd want a fixed blade but for everything I use a knife for in my regular life an opinel will do.. the #7 is my edc along with my sak

I've had the Ritter for some time and I like it...but if I lost it and had to buy a new folder, I'd get the manix. I like the full liners on the grip compared to a partial on the Ritter. Although it would be price dependant as well.

You would be hard pressed to find a better slicer than the Ritter/Grip, unless you went with a thinner blade like an Opinel. I carry mine every time I go into the woods. The Manix is a tank, and will also serve you well.

I have an oppinel # 7 great knife cheap...how do you like that garden model fiddleback?

Its good. 12C27 SS. I'm not big on SS, but this one isn't hard to sharpen, and no chips yet, and for boating. Why not go stainless? I mean, its everywhere.

Another winner I take in the canoe with me is the Opinel filet knife. A+ for that one. I got the bigger one and love it. I carry the garden knife, the filet knife, and the saw with me usually.

I have a mini manix, very robust. Haven't been able to find a real use for it tho since I usually carry a fixed blade while I'm out.

If it's going to be a folder I'd go big so I'd say the Manix.

On a personal note for myself I only carry fixed blade in the field anymore, with the exception of my multi tools.

And a little advice don't use your folder in the canoe, I've seen some nice stuff go over in years past. I myself keep a Leatherman micro on a necklace for cutting fishing line and such.

Good luck
Helle
