I need some guidance regarding a DO-ALL Surface grinder that I just acquired.

This machine came with an oil or hydronic fluid tank. (Just guessing at both) I was told its necessary to move or slide the table

What info I'm looking for is

1. Can I outfit this device to manually move the table using the wheel you see in the front. There by eliminating the oil tank requirement.

2. Can I make this grinder into a belt grinder.

Is it worth it?

Thanks for the help

Happy Thanksgiving

Hey John, how are things on the peninsula?

The surface grinder guys will certainly give more detailed answers, but:

You should be able to disconnect/remove the hydraulic feed and run it manually.

It is three phase, so you will need some sort of converter to run it unless you have 3Ph in your shop.

Yes, you can convert it to a belt grinder type. You need to have a custom drive wheel made ( see below).

DO NOT turn that thing on with that chipped wheel on it. It will likely explode into large stone shrapnel.

Here are some threads that should help:

Awesome thanks Stacy, The new shop is almost finished. Waiting on final inspection and Dominion power to run the 200 amp service.

I was never going to turn that thing on.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving.

I was going to try to keep it all together and get it working as it was made to but I have limited experience with these grinders and I feel that the slower pace of manually moving the table is better suited to my way of knife making. But I do understand what your saying.
