Ok so I decided to make a knife from an old rasp file, I went ahead and cut the file to shape with a grinder, then did the bevel tiyh the 1x30 belt sander, then I temper the file (knife), I put the oven to 400 degrees after 2 hours the file came out with a bronze color. Is that something I did wrong?

You need advice from knifemakers, not ordinary everyday knife knuts. :)
I moved this to Shop Talk for you.

The file was already hard and most likely tempered at the higher temperature, so bottom line you did nothing. I guess the questions is will it cut and hold and edge? if not you overheated the file when grinding and will need to start the HT process all over.

Great thank you for the advice.
