Need help choosing a "hard use" folder.

Yep, I want to hear the answer to this too! The grip might be worth the money to me, but only if I feel the "corrosion resistance" is built into more than just the blade! Anybody know?

I bought the H2O for my best friend whom lives on Maui. He spearfishes, hunts and processes goats/deer, and treats it in generally awful ways. It's still kicking after 15 months. He's never had a higher-end knife before this one, and has been hugely impressed with how well it's held an edge.

I found an old post and per Kimberly from Benchmade all hardware in the H20 is the same as used in the regular griptillian. This is from 2010 so it could have changed but I doubt it. I can find no complaints about the omega springs rusting in the H20 from users.

Yeah Ford, I found that post too...a little disappointing. I mean, it's good that people aren't having any issues, but I would have hoped benchmade would go the extra mile on components too. Especially for $130. :-( Seems like spyderco uses all rust free components on the $65 pacific salt. I would be tempted to go with the more rust resistant knife if the prices were the SAME! What am I getting for the extra $65? Maybe the grip is a tougher knife. I don't know. I think I'll start a new thread and see if anyone has experience with both.

Not saying I won't go with the grip...I still might, but I've got to do some more research on how the grip stacks up against the pacific salt for "hard use"

That is probably a good idea, rather than getting rumour and conjecture from a bunch of us with no experience with the knife.

Yeah I still own a Pacific Salt (serrated edge) and have had regular Grips but have no experience with the H2O model specifically.

Shooter, you have any vertical blade play with the salt? I have a tiny bit with my dragonfly after just a few weeks, but I googled it and it seems not so uncommon on the lockbacks. Hopefully it won't get any worse.

Just a hint of a little rock... but I've also used it to saw down small trees (1-2" diameter):D... so, I think it's held up just fine and isn't even close to worn out.

If you're willing to shell out the cash, I can't recommend a SATU enough. One of the best hard use folders out there, blade steel that'll hold a good edge, and a nice point to jam through that fish.

the s30v on the spydie military holds up pretty well to corrosion specially if you keep it treated with some mineral oil (keep it food safe :) ). you really cant go wrong with any of the salt line spydie offers they are all really well made knives, the same goes the the h20 grip. You should totally start a "Folders and Fish" thread in the same spirit as the beer and blades thread :D those are some damn fine catches
