Hi, I was wondering if I should get a Byrd series knife or a regular Endura/Delica/Dragonfly/Native. I was going to get a knife out of the regular line, but after hearing so many good things about the Byrd series I was wondering if it was worth the extra money. Could somebody please highlight the main differences in terms of performance? I know the Byrds won't be as good, it is just by how much. I will be using the knife for every day pocket carry. Thanks in advance, I appreciate the help.

Depends what you're looking for... Byrds are kinda just "bleh" to me. The fact that they're chinese (although they adhere to Spyderco's excellent quality standards) also turns me off.

I like the designs of the regular Spydercos much better. The steel is another factor. In the Byrds, they use 8Cr13MoV, which is supposedly in the class of AUS-8. I much prefer the VG-10 or S30V that Spyderco commonly uses. The edge retention is supposed to be better.

I got a Delica Wave and have been very impressed. I love this knife to death. The price is decent, and the knife is very robust.

I'm sure you wouldn't be disappointed with a Byrd if that's what you chose, though. If you're not looking to spend too much and still get a good knife, then it might suit you well.

If you have the money for a Spyderco I say, hands down, get one over the Byrd. Fit, finish, and function... go for the Cadillac instead of the Cavalier. Spydercos are always worth the money! :)

Go to Walmart or their website, and get a Spyderco Native! CMPS30V steel! Very good knife. It will cost under $50 too! You can't go wrong!

Thanks for the help. I'll think I'll get a Spyderco. Too bad they are a little more expensive here in Canada than they are in the States.

For good deals in Canada try Warriors and Wonders (they have a good selection and usually have a few on sale) and Lebarons (limited selection and good prices).

Thanks for the sites. I just got a multi-tool (really needed it for on the spot mountain bike repairs) so I'll probably wait on the Spyderco until I visit California this August.

The native or the endura are great I have both. The native is a great bargain considering the blade material is cpms30v, most knives are twice the price when the blade is s30v. Both are great EDC knives.

If you like serrated, get a Police - you will love it! :D
