Need help choosing a machete

My Ontario has had the snot beat out of it and as you can see not broken. I've used it to clear paths for hunting and to cut small trees. Takes and keeps a great edge!

How's the grip on that ? It looks slipery.

Also I want to reiterate my last question :

about the condor el Salvador carbon steel

The part # on your corner store is CTK2020HC
and the # on the condor website is CTK2020HS
so is this a fluke or are they diffirent machetes?

Hmm, the one I ordered from SMKW had #CTK2020HC. I think the one on the Condor site, as odd as that would be, is the one in error if it is a mistake. When I google CTK2020HS, nothing but Condor's website and sites in german pop up, but searching for CTK2020HC gives me vendor results. And searching for CTK2020HC in Condor's website gives me nothing, so if it is a different product, Condor doesn't list it.

I think the letters at the end of the catalog # have something to do with the blade finish, just by glancing at the machete list on Condor's site (S=satin, B=black, E=etched). But some are wrong if that's the case (Bolo machete, this Carbon El Salvador).

To be sure, I'd email Condor or Yourcornerstore (or both).

The grip on my ontario is slippery. At least it is to me. You can buy micarta blanks for real cheap online, i've got the site bookmarked somewhere. Get yourself a dremel or a belt sander, bolt them on, and go to town til they feel good. The factory edge on my ontario sucked. after an hour and a half with a rough stone and another hour and a half with a fine arkansas stone, that machete was razor sharp, with a convex edge to boot. It still is that way today, the steel is just damned tough. Another option is to invest in a tub of marine tex, and find a how to on rifle stock DIY texture jobs. Just apply it over the plastic ontario handles and you have yourself a nice textured grip.

#### UPDATE#### I just spoke to Rick at condor and he conformed that the error was on thier website. The actual part # is CKT2020HC and it's black on black. So the one I found on yourcornerstore.com was the correct new condor machete. What at deal!!

Also Rick at condor was very nice and he told me that I would love the new el Salvador but should I have any issue to contact him and he would take care of it. It's good to know that a company stands behind thier product.

Get a CS, I have pounded on mine very hard. The edges will not
chip, unlike an Ontario. I even pounded(batoned) my CS bolo through
a block of frozen meat. The edge was a little rolled but it was fixed
in about 5 min. with a file. I believe the Ontario is too brittle
for a machete, but I do have a tendency to brutalize my machetes
relentlessly. :D YMMV....
