hey guys i need help choosing a new blade over the coming mounths i will be spending a lot of time in the woods hunting, campin, hiking, etc and i thought i would treat my self to a new blade i know i would like to have flat or convex grind and my price limit is $150 i have been looking at jk's knives, barkies, and some rats but havent found anything that realy fits my needs i will be doing a good amount of cutting, some battoning so what do you think would fit the bill ?

Why not pick the one you made yourself. Looked like a good one to me. Spend $150 on camping gear :D

Otherwise, I'd recommend going with one of the makers, you know them as well as any of us do.

i would but it is a thin hallow grind not that good for batoning

Check out these Maker here, Tell them just what you want, draw them a picture and you will have exactly what you want. Check the ones in the Camp Knife challenge post.

I am not really sure what size knife you are looking for so I figured I would just give you a few different ideas to chase down. All of these should fit all of the requirements that you listed. There is quite a variety of prices and sizes.

My favorites fixed blades under $150 in no particular order:

- BRKT Fox River
- BRKT Canadian Special
- BRKT Kephart
- Fallkniven F1
- Fallkniven S1
- RAT RC-3
- RAT RC-4
- Condor Rodan
- Condor Inca Knife (10" or 12")
- Becker BK7
- Ontario 12" Machete
- Benchmade Rant DP
- Benchmade CSK

All of the above knives are nice, but there is still a lot to be said for giving your business to the makers right here on the forum.

There is no shortage of options in your price range. Good luck on your search.

Take a look at some of the passaround threads for ideas. The koyote bushcrafter leuku or his seax would be ones I'd think about, JK's kephart (get it in 5" x 1/8") or scout, Breeden's peacemaker or pathfinder, farmer ultimate utility come to mind immediately.

thanks how do fallknivens hold their edge ?

I'd go for a Falkniven F1 or S1. They hold an edge well.

The laminated VG10 Fallknivens hold their edge very well

The Fallkniven models in 3G steel have excellent edge retention and hold their edge about twice as long as the laminated VG10 models. However the 3G models are out of the price range nominated in the first post.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards
Mick

Like others have said, the Fallknivens hold their edge quite well. In fact, it will surprise how well they hold their edge while still being relatively easy to sharpen. That's the magic of VG-10.

Email John of JK Knives or Bryan Breeden and tell them what you want. Both are great guys and the knives they make are in your price range.

Plenty of good options. I will say this, if you choose JK he will do it your way. That's worth something to me.
