Need help choosing a new Spyderco.

Miketbass, I have large, thick hands and I found the Manix XL a little binding on my fingers so I sold it. I got a Military instead. I love it. I also do not have the finger issue on the PM2. The way the pommel curves in on the XL confines your hand into a too narrow a space if you have large hands.

I would agree, the XL was my favorite of the Manix designs that I have handled. Have not owned a Manix... Maybe I need to fix that!

The full size Military is my favorite of all time. I carry the M390 Millie just as often as anything else, however OP did not inquire about it. My recommendation stands heavily. Surprisingly the PM2 fills out my hand nicely as well for it's smaller size. Eric got that design right and I think if you were to pick an EDC blindly the PM2 would be a safe bet every time.

Back to the OP, I still stand by my recommendation of grabbing the original Gayle Bradley while you still can. I use my knife at the old 9-5 in a very similar fashion but find myself treating the PM2 a bit more delicately and touching it up when I get home on the Sharpmaker. The GB1, not so much. It is slightly out of your price range I suppose, but dig through the couch for some change and Knifeworks.com has some in stock for $163 ;) If you do not like it I cannot imagine you will lose much money trying to flip it on the exchange forum here of BF. I expect them to only increase in value. I will only hold on to mine.

This is not technically true. The verbiage in their policy says that "damage caused by disassembly" voids the warranty. So you can take it apart, but they aren't going to fix it for free if you break it while doing so.

AAAaaaaaaaah!!!!!!! you are quite right!!! man can this get confusing.... so disassembling the knife DOES NOT void the warranty!!! that is damn sweet!

My s110v PM2 needs to go in for warranty, and the only reason I know what the problem is ( don't tell Sal but I did disassemble it). The skilled workers at Spyderco can discern if anything sent in for warranty repair was damaged by the owner vs. manufacturing defects. My example is in the latter category. If I had damaged it during my tinkering they would charge ($25?) however they stand by their product and will make anything on their end wrong, right.

I would skip the Manix 2, have one, but it isn't what I would bring to work. Due to the BBL and cleaning concerns.

Para 2 is a good choice, I love mine, GB2 seems to be good to go too (don't own one). I do carry a Military to work, as well as a Walker Liner Lock from another manufacturer , and the PM2 of course.

My place of employment is pretty dusty too. That's my Military in my pocket. And the boot in the pic really is brown [emoji6]

For cleaning I don't take my knives apart. Just flush with hot water and blow dry.

I haven't had any problems with the knives functioning. Although they do have gritty opening by the end of my shift.

I don't know what is wrong with all of you people. You are supposed to tell the OP to buy them all!

Well FWIW I have all 3 of them. I like the GB1 and Manix 2 for hard work and the PM2 for EDC, although I wouldn't mind any of them for EDC.

I would not personally want to process materials like cardboard and hard plastic with S30V. So that eliminates the standard production PM2 and Manix.

If you don't need something right away, you could wait for the PM2 sprint in CPM-M4 to come out. Price is $150. If you can't wait, go for the GB2 in CPM-M4. Price is around $140.

That sprint is going to be gone in minutes I feel like.

I used to be a Benchmade fan, I still own a few but I ran into some quality issues with them. My wife bought me a volli for Christmas and one side of the blade edge isn't smooth, it has a rough feeling to it. The blade on my mini Barrage started getting a lot of blade play shortly after I bought it. The axis lock on my large Griptilian started sticking shortly after I bought it, the blade on my Valet had Blade play, the blade on my Torrent was horribly off centered. Plus Benchmade needs to work on their factory edge. They do an excellent job with their LifeSharp edge, but the edge on the knives they ship to retailers could be better. I continued purchasing Benchmades because they do produce some high quality knives but I started noticing that their QC isn't consistent. I figured I would give Spyderco another try.

This mirrors my experience. I used to be a HUGE Bench made guy ( especially their model 42 Balisong) but they do have some inconsistencies in their heat treating . I bought my First Spyderco , a Harpy in 2005 after watching " Hannibal". I saw how effective the knife was for gutting. And l realized that it would be very handy for gutting game and fish , and cutting rope and netting. I bought that one Harpy . And l realized that l had found my favourite knife company.
Regarding your choice of knives , l will say get the Gayle Bradley. M4 can cut tons of cardboard without dulling. I would know :D

Go with a standard Endura with VG10 steel. couldn't ask for a nicer knive. If smaller is needed go the Delica route with VG10. I carry both on me at all times.

Both are good knives.

However, in my experience, backlocks are not reliable in extremely dirty, dusty environments. Cleaning is also a bit more time consuming with the closed construction.
