Hello,

I have looked at the ZT 0150 and the Benchmade Nim Cub 2. I would like something that has a clip and I kydex sheath. I would like a good rust resistent steel so that I don't have to worry about sweat and rain causing my blade to rust. I would also like something that isn't much longer than eight inches. I appreciate all suggestions. Thanks and if you own one of the ones you suggest please post a photo.

Thanks again.

The Izula comes to mind. If you buy the kit version it comes with a clip plate for the sheath. The coating should prevent any rust.

Thanks. I have looked at the ESEE knives. They seem pretty tough. Anyone with an ESEE want to chime in about the quality?

If you're just looking for something to stab things with, the Gerber Guardian and Cold Steel Braveheart are both quite comfortable to carry while running. I tried both out for a while doing exactly that (running, that is, not stabbing things) and they both worked well enough.

The knives themselves are not overly good (the Guardian I had being an absolute junk knife that comes with a decent sheath, while the Braveheart is a much better quality knife that comes with a junk sheath), but they weigh the square root of nothing and I found that the sheaths worked well enough when clipped to the waistband of shorts or running pants at the small of my back. I didn't notice them rattling around or scraping anything.

Also, The coating on the Izula will not prevent rust. I wore one hung around my neck for a while a couple of summers ago and literally every part of the blade that wasn't coated (the engraving / writing, the spots where the coating had worn off from use, and most importantly the edge) rusted right to hell.

My running knife has always been a Spyderco Delica. If you do much running you will soon find that anything other than a lightweight fixed or folder is a chore. Most lightweight running shorts wont support a clip on sheathed fixed blade the size of an Izula and you will be hitching up your shorts or sweats every few steps.

Spyderco Salt line of folder. Several types to choose from.

I like the Tasman Salt because it is a hookbill blade, but has enough point to stick into things. The H1 steel contains no carbon so it is impervious to rusting.

Gonna be testing out one of the new gen CS Spike models...would fit the bill.

What do you wear when you run? A lot of clips suck without a belt.

I'm a runner and have been through all the different Idea's. Fixed blades are a no go for me unless it is a very small neck knife. My preferred knives when I run are my Spyderco Dragonfly in a neck sheath (my most common companion):

I got the Kydex sheath from an ebay seller. He custom makes them and it has worked great.
But if I'm going on a trail run or in an area where I don't know and may need to up the ante a bit, I wear a Flipbelt <--URL embedded. My wife bought one and I thought it would never work like people have been saying but she swore by it; so I bought one. I carry my Samsung Galaxy 3gs in one side and my Spyderco Endura in the other and I'm not kidding when I tell you, you can easily forget that it's there. The thing is just comfortable; it just works. We did just over 11 miles the other day with our belts on with absolutely zero issues. I put the thing on and drop my shirt over it and people never know it's there. My wife thinks her's looks cool and wears it on the outside.

The Izula is a high quality neck knife, you really couldn't go wrong with one.

Check out the Gryphon M 10 knife with a RiverCitySheath and a Spyderco G clip. I've been running with one for about a month and it is very light, rust resistant (VG-10) and the sheath is awesome. The draw is very smooth and the sheath gives you a full grip. There's one for sale on the production fixed blade section, for a very good price.

I have to chime in here, and I would like to mention that under extreme stress, ie a life threatening situation, your fine motor skills deteriorate. That means you will most likely not be able to properly, quickly, and safely open a folder. You might drop your knife or cut you thumb to the bone. I would have to recommend a fixed blade. Of course, with proper training, this can be overcome, but it is a constant ongoing training. Have you considered some if the "CIA letter opener" types of knives? You can stab with them, and you can't cut yourself with them. Cold Steel makes a variety of them under the Nightshade series. They are very light, you can also even use some first aid tape to tape one in a convenient spot, like your forearm or bicep.

Frontsight Hideaway knife, Brous Silent Soldier, Strider ED, CRK Professional Soldier... All good Stainless small fixed. Personally though if I were in a place where I thought I needed defensive carry I'd have pepper spray and in you're case a lighter folder like a Spyderco Military or Paramilitary 2.

When I run:rolleyes: I carry a Taurus 9 mm pt 111 , sorry just had to throw that in. ;), anyway, I do carry a RAT Izula, this is a very light weight system tray is affordable and easily customizable, unfortunately it's 1095 IIRC and even with the powder coat it will rust, now Blackie Collins had a knife called the Joggin' Buddy which clipped securely into a molded sheath using a locking system called the thumb bolt.

If ya look on line ya can still find variations of this knife for a reasonable price, < $50 or if ya go to AG Russell's site he has a similar system that would work equally well.
