Need help deciding on a new everyday knife..

Go with the Spyderco Military. 4 inch blade, strong G-10 scales, stronger liner lock. This thing was built to do many things well.

I just checked your profile you are 16 yrs. old.

I got no problems with your age, some homeless people think I am a mathematical genius!

at 16 a couple a hunderd bucks for something that will most probably get stolen or lost is a bit steep.

I would change my sugestion to a cold steel voyager clip it has a great belly it is priced well and good steel for your environment. it also has a 4" blade and it very tough.

All the suggestions were good but don't blow your wad!

I know.......16 year olds always blow their wad then by the time they turn 30 they smack themselves in the head. that is called wisdom.

by the way your birthday is the same as Michelangelo's.

good luck

let us know what you get

Chrisaiola: this guy Fatcat has held onto a buck 110 copy since he was 10 that says that he is responsible enough to get a good tool. plus the fact that this cat seems to work harder at age 16 than I do now at 27. obviously a good knife isn't just a Novelty to him its a hardworking tool. When I first started working i sure as hell didn't get the cheapest tools I could get simply because I was young and inexperienced. I got the Best tools I could afford and six years later I still have them and they are going strong.

Fatcat: get the best you can afford. the most expensive isn't always the best for the job but you'll be able to tell quality when you feel it and most of the knives recommended here will get the job done. I know that i've never felt any regret for buying a good tool.

FatCat-I am also 16 and use my knives and tools just as hard as almost everyone else on this forum (exept Cliff Stamp:) .) Living with a divorced mother means that I am the man of the house and I have to do lots of work and household repairs with limited resources. That is why I purchased one of the best mulit-tools, the Leatherman Wave, and it is still going strong. I also use knives for yardwork and I purchased another good folder, the SOG X-Ray Vision. I buy quality for many reasons, one being in that I need a quality tool to get the job done right and to never let me down when I need it. Go ahead and buy the Chinook. I love every aspect of it and it is on my wish list for Christmas. Many people belive that it is heavy but I belive that the Buck 110 weighs 8oz. so I bet your Schrade weighs about 8oz. also. The Chinook weighs around 7.5oz. and with it clipped to the top of your pocket it will seem lighter than riding at the bottom of your pocket like the Schrade.

I've got to agree with everyone on the chinook.
I finally got to look at one the other day and it was impressive. Its pretty much an LB7 thats totally tricked out and beefed up. Same type of lock, same blade shape only alot more belly to it, same sturdy proportions ( maybe even a little beefier :D). Only the chinook is made out of a much higher quality steel for the blade, and much stronger materials in the handle. G10 is really tough by itself, and the handles scales of the chinook are backed up by super tough steel liners.
Its part of spyderco's martial bladecraft series of knives, which if I remember right, and I can't say for sure, all were supposed to have locking mechanisms that would withstand at least 800lbs of force.

FatCat you are a memeber of this forum, so you are probably going to be buying all sorts of knives, so i would start slow, i agree dont blow your wad, you have to have some $$ to take out the ladies anyways.

So you will end up with working knives tactical knives, dressy knives and ones that you just think are neat.

I would 2nd the Cold Steel voyager, it is a rugged knife, and you wont cry along with it as you torture the thing (as you would with a Sebenza)

There are tons of knives out there for you, let us know what you get
