I know that I will sound really vain here but knife looks are pretty important to me:D I have two umnumzaans at the moment, both are new but one has the old pivot and one has the new. I cant really afford to keep both even tho I'd love to:D:D but I cant decide which one to keep! Wanted to kind of get a feeling for which pivot people think looks better. They both function exactly the same isn't that correct? So its just a matter of looks at this point.

Keep the old one, it looks better plus you can always buy a new pivot one since they are still in production. (:

You're really the only one that can decide which appeals to you most. For me, it's hands down the old pivot. It's just so bold, unique and symbolic of the Zaan. Had it not been for that iconic old pivot, I probably wouldn't have bought a Zaan. Ok, well, I would have bought one just based on the Zaan's blade profile alone, but it would've never made my must have priority list without the old pivot.

Definitely keep the old model. At least until I can save up enough to take it off your hands:)

Just as everyone here says. Original. It just makes the knife what it was meant to be!

I'd say keep the old one, all three of mine are the old style and I have absolutely no want for the new pivot.

Ill also make it harder for you by saying that you should sell both and buy an old pivot StarTac ;D

I'll be the lone dissenter here and say go with the new one. I personally always thought that the old pivot looked ridiculous and was what always prevented me from getting an umnumzaan. I eventually got a startac with the new pivot and love it. Not a fan of the LBS on mine though. My sweet spot is new pivot with no LBS.

I got a near mint old pivot, no LBS, Idaho Made Zaan. Found it to be a bit stiff to disengage. Would the new pivot make it easier? or are they both just the same.

The pivot has no bearing on that situation...my old pivot is easy to disengage...so is my new pivot...what you will get with the newer models is a little more real estate on the lockbar to disengage said lockbar. I also have an older model like yours that is difficult to disengage...most likely due to it not being broken in yet.

That is really great to hear. Being a newbie and have not handled any folders previously, the zaan is my first.
This at least puts into perspective that the zaan I have is normal. Just haven't broken in.

The old pivot is unique and synonymous with the zaan when it was introduced.
That is how I like it too.
Thank you.

The differences are (1) how it looks and (2) which tool is required for takedown. Structurally and functionally they are identical. I far, far prefer the old style, but that's a personal choice.

I doubt there's much real world difference, but I wouldn't go so far as to say structurally identical. Since the 'zaan is held together at two points and has no stop bar, the pivot hardware is the main "structure" of the knife. While the pivot diameter is the same, the old "lug" has a wider span and more contact area with the frame, so it follows that pushed to the point of failure, the old setup should be somewhat stronger. Again, this is likely an academic point with little if any real world application, but it helps me to rationalize my (aesthetic) preference for the older style.

I love the look of the old one. It's kinda what set it apart from other knives. It's what made the Zann special for me.

Love the look of the old pivot.

I personally don't mind a lb over travel stop, although I think it would have been nice if it could be removed.

Almost seems like a bit of an insult that they made it tamper proof. Plus the lovely aftermarket ti lbs was one of the few things that I really liked about my SnG. I get that CRK would prefer you didn't swap it (if it WAS removable), but even Mick conceded that a Gray Precision lbs was "jewelry" and wouldn't negate their warranty.

Just one man's opinion. :)
