Can anyone help me find a brand that produces a folding ASEK knife? The ideal knife would have the specifications of the Eickhorn ASEK-I-BOWIE, but as a folding knife instead of a fixed blade.

If anyone can think of one, I would really appreciate your help finding one.

Thanks!;)

Do you have a link or a list of the specs of that knife?
Eickhorn isn't the best-known brand around here.

Ouch. That blade is a disaster waiting to happen. Why weaken a blade meant for emergency operations?

There are better ways already in use for adding a linecutter or guthook.

Although I disagree with the concept, Boker makes some knives like that, check out their site.

That's not much help. :)

Which site, Boker in German or BokerUSA? Boker's a big company ... any hint on the name to search for, or should we just scroll down every page? Are these Boker knives or is Eickhorn manufacturing them for Boker?

If the design is imperfect, having someone else make something similar doesn't improve it, it only inflicts it on a potentially larger audience.

Smash, the Eickhorn has the cutout on the cutting edge. That's serious weakening and a waste of a large part of what a knife is for. The Boker has an attenuated guthook, which haven't been known to weaken a blade noticeably.

Still, I agree. A separate tool avoids that kind of stress. The MOD CQD has a cutter on the back of the handle, for example.

Anyway, whenever we're looking for a real emergency services knife, a fixed blade has that big advantage over a folder. A folder is not just a compact version of a fixed blade, it has a weak spot at that pivot. Lots of them are very strong, but it's a compromise, and it generally costs a lot more.
