I have been searching for a while now but cant seem to find exactly what im looking for. here are the specs that the knife needs to have.

-convex grind
-blade length between 3.7 and 4 inches
-blade thickness between 1/8 and 5/32
-no choil (that takes out ESEE knives)

now for prefered things:

-wood handle
-wide blade
-good finger guard

the best I have found so far is the bark river gunny. the blade isnt as wide as i would like though, but it is close. this knife will be my main knife while I am out camping. I will also have an axe for the big jobs. all input is really appreciated!
thanks

The bravo-1 is just a tad over your max blade length choice, but I'd favour it over the gunny. It is a solid knife and cuts well, I like it.

i was looking at that, but it is too thick.

It it's a weight issue, I would say to not worry too much: handle is much skeletonized, it is an overally light knife. Think of it as a pumped-up bushcraft. Also, full convex grind compensates for thickness for what concerns cutting ability. The grind is also thinner at the point, so it penetrates quite well and mantains robustness. The gameskeeper is also as much as nice. :)

its not about weight. i like to baton extremely small peices of wood to start my fire, and a knife that thick would break the small peice of wood when it is halfway through rather than slice through it

Have you checked out a Blind Horse Knives Bushcrafter. Not much of a finger guard but one sweet knife.

Also check out JK Handmade Knives here on the forums. Makes some nice stuff. Plus if you have a design he can do it up for you.

Also Ray Laconico makes some very nice stuff. Don't own one but I sure would love too.

Its because your too picky. There is at least 100 plus knives out there that seem to work fine for people who actually use their knives without haveing half of your requirements.

Bark River Knife & Tool makes a large variety of knives with many different handles, including many made from exotic wood.

The selection and number of different styles is amazing.

I own a Bravo 1 but it is a thick knife. I also own a Classic Lite Hunter which I find a great EDC. Currently this knife is hard to find but is on this year's production list. I often carry a Woodland Special which is a little smaller but a very useful fixed blade that's great for EDC and not intimidating to sheeple.

View the entire selection at Knives Ship Free. I'm sure you will find something.

I just got a BRKT ---Fox River--- It is similar to the gunny in size. I am loving it! I am going to be using it for roughly the same purposes.

I'll second John (Stomper) of JK Handmade knives. Check out his sub-forum here in the makers section. If what you seek isn't in his "model list" send him a drawing. If you can draw it, he can make it.

Why settle for something that isn't your ideal?

There are knives out there that were built to specs for people who actually use their knives too.

I really dont see how I am being too picky. I dont have unlimited income so I can't buy knives very often. Why would I buy a knife that isn't exactly what I want? Sure there are many knives that would work just fine, but why not get exactly what I want?

To the people who have gotten a knife from "JK handmade knives" how long does it take?

I think Andy's knives (Fiddleback forge) would be perfect for you. It fills all your requirements and suggested requirements as well. Andy is a great guy, and really likes to make his customers happy. He will build a knife to your requirements. This includes many handle materials and custom options :)

Here is my lady finger:

However, if you want a wider blade, Andy offers many other options such as his bushcrafter. Here is a link to all his offerings

Hope that helps.

a very good option. i contacted him about ordering a bushcrafter but i need it for this summer and he told me he just couldnt have one made for me in time.

I think, not sure, John is into May orders now. I have another due in late April.:)

Another maker that I have experiance with is Koyote customs, also in our makers section. He does fine work as well.

The Fallkniven F1 fits all of your requirements.

+1:thumbup: The only things that it doesn't fit are your wood handle and substantial finger guard preferences, but that can be remedied by buying one of Fallkniven's F1 blanks and having your own handle for it made.

Here are some pics, from these forums, of an F1 that had custom, wood handles applied to it, just to give you an idea of what can be done to give you the knife you're looking for.

Good luck!:)
