Need Help for Survival Knife - PLEASE

Besides the Mora Bushcraft survival meets alot of the points he was interested in. I have handled this particular knife and it is of good quality for the price. My nephew was given one as a Christmas gift last year and I was impressed with it.

Okay, since you want to discuss all the points it meets:

<$75 Yup.
0.188" - 0.25" thick (0.20" ideal) Nope.
5.5" - 6" blade (5.5 ideal) Nope.
1070 Carbon Steel/1095 Carbon (Heat Treated) Nope, but close.
Micarta/G10 scales Nope.
Kydex/hard plastic type sheath Yup.
Exposed pommel for hammering (i.e. BK2, ESEE 6) preferred but NOT mandatory Nope.
I prefer black coating on the blade to help prevent rusting Yup.

The OP also said:

I'm looking for full tang.
And more importantly:

Appreciate the Mora suggestion, but I am just not into their knives. Very thin blade and looks like a kitchen knife. I have no doubt it's a good knife, it's just not for me.

I get that you like Moras. I do too. But the OP is clearly looking for a longer, thicker, heavier full tang knife with composite handles, which isn't even close to a Mora. All of which just makes it appear that you just did a drive by post instead of actually reading the thread.

There are lots of heavy duty blades out there but for all he's wanting and for the price range he wants it in is going to be a tall order don't you think?

As for liking Mora's, I don't have any and at the moment don't plan to. I do, however, have a Ratmandu, TGLB (for a short while longer) and let's see a Leatherman Supertool 300 and a Spyderco Endura 4.

With the moniker "SEAL TEAM 6" I assumed it was an adolescent I was talking to. So I figured a high dollar knife was not in his range of possibilities. He said something about an Esee 6, that is really all he would need, except for maybe adding some TKC scales to make it more comfortable.

I think instead of adding quantity to his "wants" I think improving what he already has is more logical and practical. And with that, I will get off my soapbox. Sermon over........

Wow, talk about making a baseless generalization! Drawing that conclusion just by looking at a "handle", that I'm young with no money. If that's how you judge who you're talking to then I'd rather you not comment as I question your credibility. BTW, your mora suggestion was completely off base from the knife requirements I mentioned, further reducing the credibility of your posts.

You mentioned improving on what I have rather than adding to my "quantity of wants", please don't...I specifically mentioned what I'm looking for and asking for the forum members for other knives that meet this criteria that I may be overlooking. Suggesting a knife that doesn't meet that criteria is just a waste of everyone's time.

I really hope as a new member here that you guys don't assume who a person is just by their "name". Talk about judging a book by its cover...BS if you ask me.

Just keep the esee, it won't be confused for looking like a "kitchen knife" if that's your biggest concern

People judge. It's a survival trait. We judge based on the data we are given. In your case, there isn't much data and one significant data point is the 'handle' you chose. When the judgement instinct is working well, the initial judgement will be modified by later data, which in this case would be more posts by you.

And yes, your 'handle' choice sounds juvenile. Complaining about that doesn't help.

Just as ignorant. By that token, I should just assume that your a "spicoli" type, pot smoking surfer based on your "dude" handle? That's ridiculous. By the way, pretty ironic that you're calling my handle juvenile "dude".

All those that want to help a new member with his question, I thank you in advance. All of you want to harp on a handle, and make assumptions on who the person is, please don't waste anybody's time with your comments.

I also thought youngster when I read the screen name, kinda like if I joined a chose "Badass Marine" if I wasn't a Marine. Ah well.... back to the discussion, I've had several of the Becker knives in the past 10 years (the 10 being my personal favorite), and while the factory scales are usable, the G-10 that TKC sells makes them much more comfortable for extended use, and I have xl hands.

You totally didn't grasp what I wrote. And I have no problem with people making an initial judgement of me based on 'Norcaldude'.

It's unfortunate that you are taking my feedback as an attack, but it does reinforce the perception that you still have some maturing to do. Good luck with that, 'SEALTeam6'.

Wow...... Just wow... Good luck kid with getting your knife suggestions.

I thought this forum was to get knife help/advice and to increase knife education?

Can you all just forget about what my handle is and get back to the actual post?

If you want to give knife recommendations, then I thank you for the help from a fellow knife lover.

If you don't want to give knife advice because I chose the handle I did then that's fine, I thank you anyway for taking the time to read the thread.

Some might consider my handle a bit juvenile. But it is my favorite caliber of firearm which is why I chose it about 10 years ago. If I were 18 right now, I'd probably be pretty interested in the same kinds of knives the OP is and hope to broaden out my choices with good decisions. The OP is looking at pretty reasonable knives regardless of age. I hope you don't consider this a slam, because that was not my intention.

Thanks 22-rimfire. I'm much older than people here have "assumed" and have always had an admiration for the SEAL teams, so that's why I chose the "handle" I did. It's also because the other 10 names I originally wanted were taken, so this is what I came up with...really not a big deal guys, it's just a name.

I'm looking at the BK10 based on a lot of reco's but it has a similar handle profile to the BK2, which I haven't had a chance to feel out in person. Wish the Crotalus was in-stock because then that would make the decision simple. The other option is an ESEE 5, but didn't want to spend that much on a knife.

I'm not married to the carbon blade steel or the exposed pommel , so if any members think there are other knives that fit most of my criteria, I'm definitely open to exploring those as well.
