Need help getting a real knife

CRKT M21 is ok, but it can't beat an Ontario Rat 1. And the rat can be found for around 30 bucks pretty much anywhere online. Welcome to the forum.

P.D. I gave 2 of my closest friends a Rat 1 as a christmas present and they absolutely love it. After giving them a cheaper but sturdy knife last year I decided to give them something I know it's a solid performer.

That's nice looking too, there is a lot of stuff out there man, I might have to get a few things over the next few weeks and switch every few days lol.

White, if you are like most folks here on the forum, you are going to wind up with a whole bunch of knives with different locks, handle materials, and blade steels.
One great thing about BFC is the exchange. If you buy something and don't like it, you can always trade it off, so best of luck finding the ever elusive "perfect" edc!

Idk if anything can ever be perfect

It sounds like you're the kind of guy that would benefit from say, a cold steel recon 1.

I would be willing to try anything, a lot of these knife places have great return policies, asking ad I just get it and don't best it up if I don't like it I could always exchange it. I actually like the looks of the cold steel knives they look old how to explain it, just dependable

I'm not going to get a slip joint,a pocket clip is like 100% needed for me.

Good, and you shouldn't get one ever.

As you said get yourself a real knife. Something tough and rugged made for hard use. A Cold Steel Recon 1 or AK-47 sounds right up your alley.

I keep reading that cold steel knife handles run your pants because of the clip and the texture of the handle, honestly I don't even want to be bothered with getting the driver to take it apart to fix the handle like YouTube says. I'm looking too just open the box and have everything be in order no maintenance required. required. I don't really plan on collecting I kind of just want something reliable because I'm tired of stuff falling apart on me, I have no plans to take anything apart.

One of the Benchmade Grips, Kershaw Skyline, Spyderco Endura or Delica. All should be in your price range if you buy from one of the better internet dealers.

Not sure you read his post. Two of those are lockbacks, and one is an Axis lock, both of which he doesn't want.

White, I suggest you give the Ontario Rat 1, the cheaper spyderco knives, or something like a Kershaw a try. I'm a Spyderco fan myself, and suggesting spending a little more for VG10, s30v or some other higher grade steel. However, I have heard great things about their Taiwan line, including the Tenacious which people seem to enjoy. That whole line is a great entry into spyderco, all have liner locks, and all get great reviews. They also fit your price point. Good hunting!

Thanks, the only quality brand I have heard of before this was buck because my dad hunted and Kershaw with I heard my cousin who lives out in the sticks mention.

In that case get an Ontario Rat 1. They are $30, very simple and reliable linerlock, smooth zytel handle scales, and damn near indestructible.

I'm ganno have to second the Ontario RAT 1 and the Spyderco Tenacious. As someone mentioned earlier, you will eventually branch out into different locks and price ranges. You will also end up getting a Torx driver. They run 5-10 bucks and are invaluable when you have a collection. After just over a year I have nearly 30 blades

There are a lot of online stores that sell spyderco for a steal. Honestly I suggest using the google shopping tab to find some awesome deals. Not really deal spotting but it will sort out all the prices, taxes, shipping time etc for you. I usually go to a big online knife store, pick out what I like regardless of price, and see if I can't hunt it down for cheaper in the aforementioned way. Often, you're paying more for a better steel with the big name companies, as better stainless steels will still be rust proof but will take and hold an edge far better. For example I paid about $100 for a Spyderco Paramilitary 2, carry and use it every single day, and barely have to touch it up every couple weeks. Awesome knife, as is the Manix 2 and Military. Many, many options.

For the Rat 1, I suggest typing Baryonyx Knife Co. into google. 42blades is the owner and he's a member here. He inspects all items critically before sending them out to make sure you get the best. He also ships very quickly. If he has what I want, I always buy from him first. Class act.

I mention Kershaw because they're a great brand that has great value for the money sent. They're also extremely well made and good quality on top of an outstanding warranty and customer service.
They are good knives at a good price.

I am a Spyderco girl all the way but Kershaw does make a good knife at good prices for those on a budget.

Spyderco does have the Manix 2 in s30v and super strong Ball Bearing Lock. Looks like the Axis a little but it's not. You pull the lock down with two fingers and the blade swings closed. A good larger and tough knife. You can't go wrong with the Manix 2.

So I would vote Kershaw or a Spyderco Manix 2 lol.

Any specific Kershaw model?

The Triad lock on the CS is probably my favorite locking mechanism. Just plain strong and secure.

I don't find any trouble closing them, but they do get softer after use. They are really a brute strength lock. The steel, Aus8 is a strong, easy to sharpen stainless. It is not tops in edge retention, but can take a lot of punishment. It is not a small knife, an not a thin slicer. Of course, that is my opinion after using the steel pretty hard for 13+ years.

There have already been a lot of good mentions.

For pretty great cutters, I like traditional slip joints. They also make locking traditionals. Great Eastern Cutlery is my favorite right now (they are the maker for GEC, Tideoute, and Northfield, and Farm and tool). take a gander at collectorknives.net for some options on the GEC traditionals. They also carry a few other makers like Queen, Schatt and Morgan, etc etc.

In your price range, there are a lot of great options, especially at the higher end.
