Need help getting started

Yea the cord to the drill needs to be replaced. My gpa said that he really likes that drill and has been working with it for years and years. One thing I like about this old press, is that the drill can come off and you can mount just about any power drill in its place. I can replace the cord np.

Any advice on the size of workbench I should build and should I mount the vise and drill press close to each other or does it even matter?

What book are you referring to JBS Toolmaker? Just getting started in this myself and would like to get the book you are talking about.

Thanks
How to make knives by Robert W. Loveless and Richard Barney. It covers many differant methods of making blades, handle styles and sheaths.
Stock removal and sheath making is covered by Loveless, forging and sheath making by Moran and making a knife with hand tools by Barney. It's very descriptive and step by step. Good book.

On the bench, think BIG mount it to the wall if posible and use something heavy for the top, like 2 layers of 3/4 plywood. With vises you can never have too many. I have 4 mounted in differant areas.I will send you some pics of my benches. Just PM me your e-mail.
