Need help identifying a bayonet...

A friend gave me a bayonet today and I’m curious to see if anyone may know anything about its type.

He found it in a barn in Nebraska fifty some odd years ago and that’s about all we know.

I think the engraved numbers are 5528 but I’m not certain I can quite them out.

It’s a Mauser.
Because of the length, I’d put my money on a WW2 K98 Mauser.
The WWI era bayos were much longer.

Yep, and probably a bring back from the war by a GI.

I'm told my grandfather brought back a Mauser bayo and some kind of German pistol, but it was taken by my dad's oldest brother who probably sold it.
