The other side is identical to this side- no stamp and no Case stamp near the hilt. I will upload a pic

It looks to me like you have a 523-5 with rounded pommel which is listed as very scarce. Stamping looks like Pre 1920. Nice old knife. 👍 Kevin

Thank you guys. What was this knife used for? Is it hardened?

Looking for more info, or even links to get more information on this blade.

The blade looks to have been "sharpened" poorly in the past, and the blade is scratched and the handle, inside the antler veins has heavy dust buildup, and needs cleaned up. Any advise on how to bring it back into good shape safely?

Wouldnt want to ruin it. Should the blade or handle be taken care of by a shop or profesional?

It doesn't look like anyone took a grinder to it so the scratches = character. Most of the time "cleaning up" a knife by buffing off the scratches, etc, ruins the history and value of an old knife. You can clean the knife with water and dry it well.

Thank you for this information Nixelplix, I will clean it up as is, and keep on using it on the rare occasions that I get the chance to hunt/camp, and keep that character building.
